Today, the Tibetans under the leadership of Dalai Lama are asking and pressing for preservation of Tibetan culture and spirituality along with conserving the environment.

Tibet’s atmosphere is that of a cold desert, severely cold and freezing and dry through major part of the year. Tibetan Plateaus houses the source of many major rivers like the Indus River, Yangtze River, Ganges, Mekong, Yellow River, Yarlung Tsangpo River, Salween and Brahmaputra River. Majority of the Himalayan ranges fall in the region of Tibet. You can see beautiful landscapes of the vast rivers, lakes, snow capped mountains, rolling hills, verdant pastures that leave you virtually spellbound. The complete Tibetan landscape has a magical and mystical quality about it and you will be enthralled by the soul stirring experience that Tibet offers.

Tourism in Tibet is fast becoming a flourishing industry and many tourists from all over the world are attracted to Tibet. Lhasa is the traditional capital city of Tibet Autonomous Region and it contains world heritage sites of Norbulingka and Potala Palace and Dalai Lama’s residence. Shigatse is another biggest city of Tibet with many tourist attractions like the Tashilhunpo Monastery and Panchem Lama’s traditional seat. Tibet offers the tourists with great spiritual and religious experience in the form of many Buddhist temples and monasteries. The tourists can enrich themselves about the rich cultural heritage of Tibet.

Tibet also provides excellent adrenalin rush by way of thrilling adventures. You get to explore the virgin areas and the visitors can look forward to exciting trekking tours in the Himalayan ranges. You can undertake exciting jeep safaris or go on mountaineering expeditions. The travelers can enjoy snow skiing, hang gliding and camping. You can shop for the authentic Tibetan handicrafts like clothes, quilts, paintings, silver and gold jewelry, fabrics, Tibetan hats, carpets and rugs. You can stroll through the local markets and observe the Tibetan people closely and taste the delicious cuisines. The visitors can join in the festivities of the Tibetan festivals like Losar and Monlam Prayer Festival.
