Tourists on the lookout for an exciting break must visit the pristine US Virgin Islands. The US Virgin Islands are an insular region of the US and they are a group of Caribbean islands. The Virgin Islands are situated along the region of Lesser Antilles in Caribbean Sea and are made up of 50 isles and cays that are both uninhabited and inhabited. The main islands are Saint John, Saint Croix, Saint Thomas and Water Island. The Virgin Islands were found by Christopher Columbus in the 14 the century. The Danish royalty bought it in the 17th century and sold it in 1917 to the US Government. Now it forms an insular area of the US and follows the US-governed laws. The indigenous population is made up of people with West Indian and African ancestry. Currently, the islands are inhabited by people of North American, European, Asian and Middle Eastern origin. The official language of Virgin Islands is English, but Spanish is also spoken by majority of the population.

You can get around easily in the Virgin Islands by way of boats. You can rent sailboats or motorboats and if you can afford, then you can charter a sailing boat as well. You can rent a car also to get around the islands. The best option would be to walk around and take in and absorb as much as you can of the bountiful nature of the islands. The topmost on the list of things to do in Virgin Islands would be to enjoy the scenic beaches, sun, sand and surf. Most visited place is the Coki Beach in St Thomas Island. You can enjoy duty free shopping as it has many shopping opportunities along with numerous trendy bars, including the world renowned Hard Rock Café. The adventure enthusiasts can look forward to a great time at St. John, which is a national park. You can go for hikes, kayaking, para-sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving or surfing. St Croix has an underwater park and you can see great architecture at Christiansted and Frederiksted towns. Fishing requires special permits and licences.
