Bordered by Mexico from the northwest, Guatemala is a country located in the central part of America. Guatemala is the most populous nation of Central America and the capital of the place is called as the Guatemala City. Since 1996, the nation has been experiencing a steady economic development. Traveling to this place can be of real joy throughout the year as it displays a tropical climate. This country also houses the highest volcano in the entire of Central America named Tajumulco. Some of the better known places that can be visited by the tourists are:

Chichicastenango: This is one of the most popular towns of Guatemala which is located about 90 kilometers away in the northwestern part of the country. This is also one of the cooler regions of the country making it very ideal for to be visited throughout the year.

Izabal: Located in the eastern part of the country, this region is popular for the presence of the largest lake of the country. The climate of this place is warm throughout the year which makes this region perfect for green vegetation.

Go for a hike on a volcanic mountain: On the weekends the tourists can visit the various volcanoes that are scattered through out the country. One such volcano that can be visited is the Pacaya Volcano, which is among one of the most climbed volcanoes of the region. Located in close proximity to the Lake Atitlan the volcano has been in an active state since 1965. The tourists are always recommended to take the help of a tour guide when they plan out for a hike of this volcano.

Visit the lake Atitlan: This is one of the most favorite places to be visited by the tourists. This is the place which promises to provide the tourists with some very beautiful attractions. Situated at an attitude of about 5,000 feet above the sea level this lake is almost surrounded by volcanoes from all the directions. A village named Panajachel is located at the southern shore of the lake which is also quite popular among the tourists.

Visit the Black Sand Beaches: Guatemala is not very popular among the tourists for a perfect beach vacation but, still for the tourists who want to visit the sea beaches the pacific coast would be the perfect place to be in. These beaches have wonderful and beautiful areas. The most interesting thing about these beaches is that most of them feature black sand because of the volcanic feature of the country. Monterrico is the best beach featuring some of the most enchanting places to be visited.

Antigua: The tourists are also advised to visit the city of Antigua. Having rich historical and cultural background the city once upon a time was the colonial capital of Spain. Recently UNESCO also declared the city as a world heritage site. This town suffered several earthquakes and the worst one occurred in 1773 when it was stuck by the earthquake named Santa Marta.
