Officially known as the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Laos is a country located in the southeastern part of Asia. The country shares its boundaries with Burma, Thailand, Vietnam and China. Full of places of tourist destination, this is the country which every tourist would want to visit at least once. Thousands of tourist travel to the country to experience its warm hospitality and enjoy the mouthwatering delicacies that are prepared by the people. Some of the best places where the tourists can enjoy their vacations are:
Bolaven Plateau: This can be a favorite place where the tourists can escape the heat of the town. This is a place where the tourists would find everything ranging from rivers, forests and natural environs where one can relax. This place is popular through out the country for the splendid coffee and tea that are grown in the entire valley. The tourists can also visit the various rivers that run down the plateau and take a trip to the various forests that are found in the plateau. The various small villages scattered through out the plateau can be used for a perfect stay for some days.
The Pak Ou Caves: Made up of limestone these caves can be found through out the valley and the various cliffs facing the rivers. These caves are also popular for the various images of Buddha that have been engraved on the walls in the ancient times. There are many tour operators who conduct regular visits to these caves and provide all kinds of information and amenities.
Laung Prabang: This place can be termed as the oldest city of the country. Full of ancient French buildings constructed during the colonial period still stand tall at this place. This place comes under a heritage site under the UNESCO and is also full of many temples, some of which are even popular through out the country. Some other places to be visited in the city are the Old Royal Palace that has been converted into a museum recently.
Plain of Jars: This is a huge piece of land spread around from the southwest to the northeastern part of Phonsavan. This place is popular for the various huge jars that are scattered through out the land. No one knows the origin of these jars which are gathered in about a dozen pieces all round. This place had been divided in three main sites of which the first one is the most popular one having the most number of jars.
Pha That Luang: This is the most important and popular national monument of the country. This building is a symbol of the sovereignty of the country and also represents the Buddhist religion. From a little distance the monument looks like a missile that has been kept in a cluster. High walls surround the monument which has very small windows to look through. The wall that surrounds the monument was constructed during the 19th century by King Anouvong as a protection against the enemies and the foreign invaders.
