Korea is a great storehouse of history, religion, arts, culture and cuisine. The tourists can be assured of an excellent vacation in this beautiful place. Korea is a peninsula of predominantly mountainous region and has breathtaking scenery with a rugged coastline. Korea is presently divided into 2 parts, South Korea and North Korea. Seoul, the capital city of Republic of Korea or South Korea and is number one tourist destination for the foreigners. It has numerous places of tourist interest along with good transport links. Korea has seen many upheavals throughout its history, with periods beginning right from the prehistoric times to the modern day period. Korea was used as a pawn in the geopolitical fight in the 19th century, the ongoing cold war between Japan, China and European powers. A stalemate was reached in 1953 with the signing of an armistice and since then, the 2 parts of Korea have gone separate. The Republic of Korea or South Korea has good experience in hosting major sports events in the international arena- Asian Games of 1986, Olympic Games of 1988, Asian Games of 2002 and FIFA World Cup 2002. The visitors can look forward to excellent sports facilities of international standards, especially in Seoul and other big Korean cities.

Due to its excellent natural setting, Korea is endowed with varied geography of high mountains, rolling hills, river basins, coastal plains, islands, volcano valleys, rivers and lowlands. Korea enjoys a relatively temperate climate with a humid summer, small rainy season and bitterly cold winters. The tourism infrastructure is well developed in South Korea and there is an extensive network of highways, railways, air routes, bus routes and ferry services. The major international airport of Korea is Incheon International Airport. There are 8 international and 7 domestic airports in South Korea. Korea has a high speed train system, KTX.

The tourists must visit the UNESCO listed heritage sites in Seoul- the royal residences of Korean royalty and kingdom. A must see is the Changdokkung Palace which is beautifully surrounded by Secret Gardens. Visit the Chongmyo Shrine in the wooded grounds and see the ancestral tablets of the Joseon Dynasty Kings. You can attend the colourful annual event of Confucian ceremony on the first Sunday of May. Make a trip to the Museum of Modern Arts housed in Toksukung Palace. The most impressive palace is Kyongbokkung Palace built in 1394 and houses the brilliant National Folk Museum. The other places of tourist interest are Namdaemun or the Great South Gate, Tapkol Park- Pagoda Park, Seoul Tower, War Memorial and Museum, Lotte World and East Gate Market.
