Georgia is a Eurasian country, a transcontinental country situated at the nodal point of Western Asia and Eastern Europe. It is situated on the eastern coast of the Black sea in the Caucasus region. On the northern side it is bordered by Russia, Turkey and Armenia lie to its southern side and Azerbaijan borders it on the eastern side. Georgia is the second state after Armenia to adopt Christianity as its official state religion. Georgia has a very ancient culture, which is greatly influenced by varieties of other cultures. The Georgian people are a mix of highly traditional to ultra modern and the Georgian cuisine is of legendary importance.

Georgia has faced constant aggression from its powerful neighboring countries throughout its history. It has undergone a continuous fight for survival, with some periods of peace in between. Presently, Georgia is a member of the United Nations, Commonwealth of Independent States, Council of Europe, Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation and World Trade Organization. It is also seeking integration with the NATO and European Union. Tourism is an important contributor to modern Georgia’s economy along with agriculture. Georgia is well known for its old tradition of wine making.

Georgia is mainly a mountainous country and it is divided into eastern and western parts by the Likhi range. The eastern part of Georgia is known as Iberia and western region is called Colchis. Georgia enjoys a balmy type of weather. It has an extremely diverse type of climate with two major climatic zones in the eastern and western parts. The landscape of the country is quite varied and includes glaciers, snow clad mountains, semi arid plains, marshlands, low land forests, temperate rain forests, lakes, alpine and sub alpine zones and deciduous and coniferous forests. The tourists will get to see a wide variety of plant and animal life in Georgia.

Georgia is world renowned for its rich culture and traditions of folklore, art, theatre, music, architecture and cinema. Georgia is well connected to various Asian, European and North American countries by air. It has direct services of buses from Turkey. There are many minibuses running between Georgia and Armenia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Iraq and Iran. Georgia is served by train services from Baku in Azerbaijan. It also has boat services to Poti and Batumi from Odessa and Istanbul. You can get around in Georgia conveniently by taxis, minibuses, buses and city bus. You can go hitchhiking as well by catching rides with trucks or by hiring jeeps.

Georgia has many forts, castles, towers and churches in different architectural styles. The classic medieval Georgian architecture can be seen in the castles of the town of Shatili in Khevsureti and the Upper Svaneti fortifications. The other places of architectural interest include the Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi. Tbilisi is the capital city of Georgia and has a beautiful ambience. It is situated on the banks of River Mtkvari, in a lovely valley encircled by hills. Tbilisi is home to many frescoed churches, the most famous being Sioni Cathedral. You can visit the Georgian State Museum to see excellent artworks. You can go for baths in the medicinal sulphur springs. There are many more places of touristic importance and interest in Georgia and you must take a long holiday in Georgia for seeing all of them.
