Take a trip to Slovakia to experience the less glamorous, untouched and virginal places of untold charms. Slovakia may lag behind in comparison to its glitzy and glamorous, well known neighboring countries. However, all of the glitz and glamour is compensated by the traditional villages, medieval cities, folk traditions and arts. The tourism industry has grown by leaps and bounds since Slovakia’s independence in 1993. Slovakia is a country of Central Europe, covered by land on all sides. It has got everything for all types of travelers and is a popular tourist destination. Bratislava is the lively capital of Slovakia. It is resplendent with great cultural life and does not have the typical tourist congestion.

The tourist will surely enjoy the warm and pleasant hospitality of the friendly and helpful Slovaks. The Slovaks make an extra effort to welcome the tourists. You will have a spectacular trip including hiking, folk festivals, snow boarding, skiing and castle tours and many more. Slovakia enjoys a temperate type of climate and the summers are sunny. The winters in Slovakia are cloudy, humid, cold and snowy. Majority of the northern and central part of Slovakia has mountainous and rugged terrain. The highest point is Gerlachovsky Stit situated in High Tatras at a height of 2,655 m. You can see beautiful lakes and valleys interspersed in the Tatra Mountains in the northern part.

Slovakia is famed for having the largest number of fortified castles per capita in the entire world. There are massive castles belonging to the medieval period. Many castles are built on the rocks and there are some beautifully detailed ones situated in the plains as well. Slovakia is also full of different types of caves like the ice caves, traditional karst caves, aragonite caves etc. These caves are open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday, for several hours on each of these days. Slovak culture is quite similar to Czech culture in terms of language and cuisine. The only notable difference is that the Slovaks are mostly Catholics, while the Czechs are generally atheists.

Slovakia is a member of the European Union and follows the Schengen agreement, and the tourist can enter Slovakia on a European Union Schengen Visa. Slovakia can be easily reached by train from Vienna in Austria. It is connected by trains to its neighboring countries like Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Hungary.
