Madrid is an all purpose tourist destination and is loaded with ample tourist attractions in the form of excellent nature, gardens, parks, culture, history, art, architecture, museums and a vibrant nightlife. You name it and you can have it all in this pulsating city. Madrid is the Spanish capital and Spain is its largest city. The city has a beautiful location on the banks of River Manzanares in the central region of Spain. Madrid is a very important financial center in the Iberian Peninsula. It also forms Spain’s political center.

Madrid is a considerably developed city with latest infrastructure. Despite the modernization, it still maintains its historical background by way of well-preserved ancient buildings and monuments. There are many historical landmarks in Madrid- the colossal Royal Palace of Madrid, Buen Retiro Park of 1631, Teatro Real along with the restored Opera House of 1850, and imposing building of the National Library of 19th century, which was founded in the year 1712. Madrid is also home to various museums of art and archaeology.

There are three world-renowned art museums in Madrid- Prado Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia. The earliest record of Arab chronicles show that Mohamed I, Emir of Cordoba built a fortress in AD 852 on the left bank of River Manzanares and named it as Mayrit. Madrid has many prehistoric and Roman remains as well. Madrid gained its independent jurisdiction in 1202 and in the year 1561, it became the capital of Spain during the reign of Philip II.

Madrid enjoys a continental climate and can be visited all round the year. The places of tourist interest include Puerta de Alcala or the Alcala Arch, the archway to this historic city, which is based on neo-classical style. Almudena Cathedral is a great and impressive building with blend of many architectural styles. Cibeles Fountain is an important sight of Madrid and it is dedicated to the goddess Cybele, who represents earth, fertility, and agriculture. The visitors must make it a point to visit the lovely building that surround the fountain- Linares Palace, Buenavista Palace, Bank of Spain and Palace of Communications.

Crystal Palace is a stunning piece of architecture, situated in the Retiro Park. The Royal Palace of Madrid is the official residence of the King of Spain and presently used as a museum and for ceremonial purpose. The other tourist attractions in Madrid are the Royal Palace of El Pardo, Royal Site of El Escorial, Temple of Debod, Convent of Descalzas Reales, Atocha Railway Station, El Retiro Park, El Capricho Garden, Campo del Moro, Casa de Campo, Botanical Garden of Monte de El Pardo, Juan Carlos I Park and La Dehesa de la Villa Park. The Madrid Zoo and Aquarium is home to more than 500 species of animals.

The Art Walk of Madrid is a unique route and it takes the tourists through a path filled with artworks like sculptures, paintings and architecture. You will see the art works of many masters and experts in the different museums. Madrid has a busy nightlife with many pubs, cafes, bars and discos, clubs and terrace bars. You can witness many shows, musical concerts, opera and theatrical performance while staying in Madrid. Madrid has many interesting events and festivals as well, including the Fiestas del 2 de Mayo, Fiestas de San Isidro and Feria Taurina and so on.
