The adventure seekers just need to be closely associated with nature and have that special leaning and liking towards nature related activities. You do not require many things for hiking; all that you need is love for nature and a pair of good hiking boots which provide great comfort. The sport of hiking is very simple and hence holds a special appeal and interest. The entry cost of hiking is low and affordable and the various hiking routes can be tailor-made to suit various physical fitness levels. Another advantage is that hiking trails are easily available all through the world.

Places for Hiking

Hiking involves much more than just a leisurely walk and has varying levels of physical exertion, ranging from a simple work out to a tiring day of trekking and mountain climbing. Sometimes, hikers undertake difficult routes for more than just a few days through rugged terrains. You can hike nearly at all places in the world, in the region of your interest and liking. The popular hiking tourist destinations are those that are situated in the wilderness areas. Rocky Mountains, Pocono region and Appalachian Mountains in the United States are full of deserts, canyons and beautiful landscapes and are some of the best hiking trails of the world.

Types of Hiking

There are different physical levels in hiking that are suitable for all types of people. The national parks are well suited for day hikes as they have fine trails that are nicely marked. These trails have many variations in the routes involving the desired distance and difficulty levels. Nature walk can said to be a hike that generally includes the easiest route. Backpacking is another popular form of hiking and is a major hit among college students wherein there is a short distance travel between hostels or camp sites. Many young people take to backpacking in Europe as a cheap way to explore the continent. It’s a down to earth type of travel combined with a wandering spirit.

Packing Essentials for Hiking

You have to carry an extremely comfortable backpack and a good pair of shoes. The backpack should be water resistant with padded and flexible shoulder straps. The hiking shoes must provide great flexibility, ankle support, protection and cushioning. Get a nice water bottle and a waterproof container for food. As you are going to carry your own backpack, you must make an effort to travel light. The packing for your hiking trip depends on the season, duration and terrain of the trek.

Carry the sets of clothes that you will need as per the season. Carry along jackets, sweaters, socks, shorts, T-shirts, under garments and toiletries. Other things include sunglasses, hat and sunscreen. It is advisable to take along your basic first aid or medical box with pain relievers, plasters, bandages, insect repellents and antiseptic ointments. If you are planning to do overnight hiking, then you must take a tent, travel pillow, flashlight, sleeping bag and larger supplies of water and food. Some of the important items would be a map, compass or GPS, whistle and mobile phone with solar charger. If you are hiking in groups, then you must share the responsibility of carrying different items.

Hiking will surely give you a unique opportunity to experience nature from a different angle altogether.
