Boston is one of the ten top destinations for the year 2008 in the list of Expedia. It enjoys the reputation of being a historically, culturally and artistically inclined city. Lately, it had gained immense popularity among the American as well as world wide tourists. Throughout the history of Boston, it has always had a grand image and has been known for its many nick names like “Hub of the Solar System’, ‘Athens of America’ and Cradle of Modern America. When it was founded in 1624, Boston was simply known as ‘Trimountain’, named after its location near the three hills at the Charles River’s mouth.

Boston has seen the Revolutionary War against the British rule and hence its nickname of being the ‘Cradle of Modern America’ is rightfully justified. Education, culture and literature flourished in this city since its foundation in the 16th century and hence it has earned the other two nicknames. Boston is the capital city of Massachusetts. It is New England’s largest city. Boston is USA’s most influential, wealthy and historical city. The popularity of this city can be attributed to its 62 historical sights, hordes of museums, restaurants numbering up to nearly 2000 and a host of cultural events and live performances.

Boston is home to many prestigious educational institutes like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. These have strengthened the educational and industrial infrastructure of the city leading to a spurt in the financial, engineering, biotechnology and electronics industry. Boston has nearly 57 college, university and research establishments. Boston has also been the home of many celebrated personalities, one of them being Benjamin Franklin- great inventor, scientist and statesman. Though Boston is famous as a hub for the auto industry, today it is recognized more as a ‘Walking City”.

Take a walk along ‘The Freedom Trail’ that is a true representation of modern America’s birth. Boston also holds a significant place in the history of American blacks and you can discover this in the Black Heritage Trail. Boston enjoys the typical climate of the east coast with hot and humid summers and freezing cold winters. Actually, Boston can be enjoyed in all seasons, if you are ready to bear the freezing cold. Boston can be best visited in the early summers. You can easily reach Boston by air, as it has an excellent international airport and many international flights from all major cities of the world. From the airport, you can take the MBTA Blue Line or Silver Line Bus or taxis or Airporter service. Boston can also be reached by road or boat.

Driving might get slightly difficult in Boston due to many problems like one way streets, rush hours, traffic snarls and so on. You can explore Boston well by walking. This way you are able to cover very fine details of the city. The public transit system of Boston is well developed, convenient and quite cheap. You can make use of CharlieTickets or CharlieCards. Subway is the rail line system of 4 color codes and it is a great way to get around in the city. The other forms of city transport are buses, water shuttle, taxis, commuter rails and bicycles.
