Most of the air passengers are skeptical about taking economy seats in a long distance flight. Majority of the air travelers dread this prospect. It is up to the air traveler to make himself / herself comfortable in the long distance flight. There are many time tested tips that will help you to cope with the stress and problems during this long journey. You need not remain crouched and uncomfortable through the tedious journey. Economy and comfort can be made to go hand in hand.

The pillows provided by the airlines can prove to very handy and useful. Use one of these pillows as a cushion for your back, place it between the seat and lower back area so as to comfort your back. You can carry along your neck pillow to support and protect your neck during the journey. If you do not have a neck pillow, then use one that is given by the airline. Stretch out your body periodically. You can rest your hands on the armrests and twist your torso lightly to loosen the muscles of the upper body.

You can take regular walks in the aisle of the aircraft once the seatbelt light has been put off. Bend your knees slightly and take two rounds of the aircraft. You can perform light exercises like moving your feet in circular motions at the ankle. This way, you will be able to lessen the swelling of the feet. It will also help in aiding blood circulation. You can also extend and flex your feet from the ankles. Keep your skin moisturized during the long distance flight as the in-flight air is very dry and the thin moisturizers wear off quite fast. You can keep your face and hands moisturized with long lasting or heavy creams and petroleum jelly. If your skin is naturally oily, then you need not follow this routine.

The air vent above your seat should be kept open. You can place a damp facecloth on your face and aim at the air vent. This will help in reducing dryness. You can also use water that is mixed with lavender oil to spray the facecloth. In the place of facecloth, you may use cheesecloth. Keep chewing gum to deal with air pressure changes. It will help to keep ear aches at bay and also ease the tensed nerves. Use slip on shoes that are loose fitting. The clothes also should be loose fitting. Keep yourself hydrated by taking in lots of water and non alcoholic beverages. Carry an extra bottle of water.

If you are traveling with injuries or fractures, then carry your pain killers as prescribed by the doctor. There is also the possibility of deep vein thrombosis so it is advisable that one takes an aspirin before boarding the flight. Do not tie your hair in the ponytail fashion and avoid using hair clips on the back side of your head. After some time, these will start digging into your head due to the tough seat backs. Maximize your comfort quotient by carrying all that is required in your handbag.
