South Beach is one of the most popular sections of the Miami Beach. Located in the vibrant state of Florida, the beach is popular with the American and international tourists. South Beach was in fact the first area to be developed as Miami Beach.
Few of us would believe the fact that South Beach was once a farmland. That’s right, back in 1870; the beach was used for the purpose of coconut farming. The uniquely colored life guard towers are one of the aesthetic features of the Beach. These life guard stands were designed by William Lane, after Hurricane Andrew caused a vast amount of destruction along the Miami Beach.
Miami South Beach’s Tourist Attractions
Lincoln Road
This is an open air walking plaza. It is also considered as the premier shopping destination in Miami South Beach. There are several restaurants and nightclubs that are located on Lincoln Road which include Funktion and Score. The road is also facilitated by a garage parking on the 17th street.
Ocean Drive
This is one of the easternmost streets in Miami South Beach. This street has an enormous amount of aesthetic appeal and is a popular destination for a spring break. The street also houses several night spots like Pearl and Nikki. Ocean Drive is also the site where the former ocean mansion of Gianni Versace’s. The Carlyle Hotel is also located on the Ocean Drive.
Española Way
The Española Way houses “The Historic Spanish Village”. This man made village is modeled after the Mediterranean villages of Spain and France. There are several galleries and shops that are found here.
Alton Road
Alton Road, located in Miami South Beach, is a road where you can buy some really elegant pieces of furniture and enjoy some great food at the several fast food joints and eateries that the road houses.
Washington Avenue
Washington Avenue is popularly referred to as the most notorious street on Miami South Beach. This is because, the avenue houses several nightclubs; and during peak season time, the street is choc-a-bloc with traffic till the early hours of morning.
Nightlife in Miami South Beach
Miami South Beach houses a total of 150 nightclubs. However, most of these nightclubs constantly change their décor, name and even their owners. So it is a little difficult to mention even a few. Nevertheless, the nightlife in Miami South Beach is “rocking” and in the peak season time, one could be partying till 5 or 6 in the morning. The only problem is that it is a little difficult for the people who are non locals to get into some of the nightclubs without connections.
However, if you are a true party animal, you would definitely find your way through and Miami South Beach is the place to be in.
