Unlike a trip to most other destinations around the world, there is a lot of planning that goes into a travel or a trip to the Desert. In the wilderness of the desert, it is important that you are prepared for everything, from a sand storm to a heat stroke or even dehydration, for that matter. Thus, planning a trip to the desert is a little more than just planning the kind of clothes that you would pack.
Here are a few useful tips that you could use when you are planning your travel to the Desert:
Choose the right time of the year for your trip to the desert
There are several of us who completely ignore the time of the year and the season that prevails when we plan our trip. Considering the fact that it is too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter in the deserts around the world, it would be best to plan a travel to the desert sometime in spring or fall.
Besides, you should also consider the temperatures that prevail in the desert before every trip within the desert. Thus, while you are in the desert, remember to start off on your trail in the early hours of the morning, when the temperatures are cool. After which, you could rest for sometime in the afternoon in the shade and start off once the temperatures are cooler. It is also best to go for walks early in the morning. Remember, the lower the temperatures, the lesser will be the level of exhaustion and the more you will be able to enjoy.
Water, Water, Nowhere
We all know that it is very important to carry enough water when moving around in the desert. However, the common mistake that most people tend to make here is that they rely on the list that states the existence of a particular spring that is located on the way. Where as, in reality, the spring might have dried up. So it is important, that you carry enough water, which should be nothing less than 1 US Gallon, per person, per day. You could use the bladder type water bottles to carry the water, but do carry two hard bottles, incase the bladder develops a leak.
Use Insect Repellents and Sunscreens and wear loose clothes
Most of us are probably well aware about how important sunscreens are; well, they are the most important in a hot desert climate.
Insects can be a real problem in the desert so it is always good to carry and use a good insect repellent
The clothes that you wear in the desert should be loose and should cover your body completely. So carry light colored or white full pants and full sleeve shirts to avoid getting sun burned. You could also choose to wear Arab style robes! Always wear a hat and you could choose to use an umbrella to travel in the shade all the time.
Besides, it is a good idea to carry a multi tool kit with you all the time. It is essential that your car is well equipped and ready for a desert trip incase you choose to use it. You should also watch out for sand storms, and the best way to do this is by keeping one eye skyward.
With all this, in place, you are sure to have a wonderful and adventurous travel in the Desert.
