Featured, General, Travel Tips

The best way to spend one’s weekend is to go to a nearby hill-station, seashore or a stylish Holiday Resort. An outing always helps to relax the body muscles and one gets completely charged up for the next week. Weekends are meant to freshen up and get the right attitude which is mostly lost owing to the topsy-turvy conditions at the work place. If the weekend picnic is well planned, it would be still better, as all the pros and cons would be considered beforehand and precautions would be taken accordingly. Anything, well planned, produces the best results. Planning the picnic is not an exception to this rule. As it is rightly said, ’Forewarned is forearmed’. So certain things need to be considered before going for an outing.

General Considerations

One should decide about the type of picnic, i.e. whether it’s an adventurous one or a relaxed one. The budget of the picnic also has to be decided, in addition to that; some extra amount should be kept along, as any problem may crop up at any time. If the spot of the picnic is offsite, its better do go for some advanced booking such as reserving the ticket in advance, making a proper time-table as to when to see which point and carrying some dry snacks to pull on till the travel destination is reached. It is also advisable to check the weather updates so as to decide the type of clothes to be carried along.

Some safety tips

It is better to carry a large tablecloth or a blanket along with, as this would help if there is dampness in the grass. Carrying handy napkins will also be useful. Baby wipes should also be taken along. To make things lighter, it’s always nice to carry paper utensils such as paper cups and paper plates, so that they can be disposed off easily. A manually operated can opener should be carried, so that opening cans would not be a problem. A corkscrew should be taken to open bottles. A small knife, aluminum foil, lighter fluid, safety matches, hand sanitizer, picnic coolers for perishable items, ice, bottled water, condiments, a bunch of garbage-bags, sunscreen lotion, insect repellent, games, a flashlight and a transistor are some other things to be carried during weekend picnics. It’s good to refresh oneself one day before the picnic. A long walk or a catch game will prepare the mind mentally and keep it healthy.

Important tips for food safety

Hands should be thoroughly washed before cooking or eating food. Hamburgers should be cooked well prior to eating. If the weather is hot, the food should not be kept out for a period greater than 2 hours as it tends to deteriorate in quality. The norms of keeping the cold food strictly cold and hot food strictly hot should be followed sincerely. Fish, poultry, and raw meat should be kept away from cooked food. Leftovers should be thoroughly packed, to avoid food poisoning, if they are intended to be used later, or else they better be thrown out.
