Trip to Gabon

Gabon is a leading nation of West Africa in the field of tourism owing to its new parks and excellent infrastructure for wildlife protection and conservation of natural resources. Gabon is a country in Central Africa situated right on the Equator. It is located on the coast of Atlantic Ocean and its bordering countries include Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and Republic of the Congo. Gabon is one of the prosperous countries of Africa because of a limited population and rich mineral and oil reserves. The country is highly successful in maintenance of its splendid biodiversity and unspoiled rain forest.

Gabon is blessed with a lengthy coastal strip comprising a string of estuaries, lagoons and bays bordered by palms. The interiors have a dense cover of lush green forests giving way to savannahs in many regions. Gabon has several rivers with settlements alongside their banks. There is concentration of Bantu people in the coastal villages and areas along the rivers. Gabon has nine provinces on the basis of administrative divisions and they are Haut-Ogooue, Estuaire, Moyen-Ogooue, Nyanga, Ngounie, Ogooue-Lolo, Ogooue-Ivindo, Woleu-Ntem and Ogooue-Maritime. Libreville is the capital city of Gabon. The other important cities of Gabon are Kango, Cap Lopez, Lambarene, Owendo, Mayumba, Gamba, Port-Gentil and Franceville. Gambo’s other interesting destinations are Mouila, Koulamaoutou, Ndende, Tchibanga, Lembamba, Bongolo and Fouganmou.

Gabon has a hot and humid climate all through the year owing to its positioning on the Equator. The climate cools down slightly in the period from June to September. Gabon was a French colony and gained its independence in 1960. You can get in Gabon by plane from Paris, Casablanca, Addis Ababa, Johannesburg, and Brazzaville in Congo and Douala in Cameroon. The international air carriers that operate flights to Gabon include Air France, Royal Air Maroc, Air Ethiopia, Air Service, Interair and SAA. Gabon can be reached by car as there are many border crossings. The roads are not well maintained though and it is advisable to use a 4×4.

Gabon can be explored easily by buses that are quite cheap. There are many domestic scheduled flights of Air Service and Air Nationale. You can avail the services of cars in main cities as the roads over there are in good condition. Luxury bus service is also available and is quite comfortable for getting around. There are a few train connections of the Trans-Gabon railroad. Gabon has good quality boat transport and the visitors can take river trips. Gabon has many untouched areas and the accommodation facilities are very comfortable. In Liberville, you must see the National Museum, Village des Artisans, Peyrie Gardens, Mount Bouet Market, Nombakele and Akebe quarters, the harbour and St Michael Cathedral.

The visitors can go to Cap Esterias Beach to see the abundant marine life and you will be able to see the rocks filled with lobsters, oysters and sea urchins. You can enjoy swimming over here. From here, you can go to the famed town of Kinguele Falls, renowned for Dr. Albert Schweitzer, the authority on tropical diseases and well known musician. The Schweitzer Hospital is also worth watching. Take a trip on Evaro Lake and go on the rapids in the Okanda region. You can see the gold mines and local crafts in Eteke and M’Bigou villages. The wildlife enthusiasts will be excited to see the big game like elephants, sitatunga, river hogs, buffaloes, panthers, crocodiles and crocodiles. The bird life is abundant as well in Gabon.
