Description

The city Bordeaux is filled up with many historical attractions, giant and magnificent buildings and is an exceptionally traditional region. You can find the best wine form France in Bordeaux. The city of Bordeaux ranks fifth as a metropolitan area. It is the industrial capital of the world in terms of wine. And the wine is traditionally produced since 8th century here. Bordeaux started exporting wine to England from 18th century. In 1871 the Third Republic came into existence at the National Assembly of Bordeaux. It is the capital city of Gironde department and aquitance region. With a population of over 1 million now the city is a big commercial and industrial hub.

Tourist attractions

Grand Theatre
The Grand Theatre is an eighteenth century building a fine work of the architect Victor Louis. The theatre was inaugurated on 7th April 1780. This theatre serves as an Opera house and guided tours are conducted to visit it.

Saint Michel

This is a church was constructed in the fifteenth century. The church has a 2nd tallest tower measuring 112 meters in France. It is a gothic style church representing the slaying of dragon by St. Michael.

The Port de la Lune

The Port de la Lune is named because of its crescent shape. It connects the centre of the city. Plenty of commercial activity takes place here. The harbour is always busy with the increasing number of pleasure crafts and cruise liners.

Cathedral of St Andre

The Saint Andre Cathedral is located on the southern tip of Old Town and the biggest church of Bordeaux. The cathedral is a 15th century construction but have origins since 11th century. The building is now in ruins with little remaining of it.
The Porte d’Aquitaine and Museum of Beaux Arts is also worth seeing.

The cultural life of Bordeaux can be well experienced in The Pedestrian Center. There are many shopping centers here. You can enjoy a drink at any bar in the student crowded La Victoire. And don’t forget to enjoy the world’s exotic wine from the vineyards.
