Tavira is a town that has a history which goes back to 1000 BC. The town is famous for Moorish occupations and also the fishing industry. These industries are the staple that runs the city. The real name of Tavira is said to be Baal Saphon. The place also has a canning industry for tuna. The factory’s has very stylish brick chimneys. The town is very old and all the buildings have been built in the medieval style and the whole architecture is very interesting. A castle in Tavira was built in 13th century which is considered to be one of the oldest castles still existing today.
Tavira is just half an hour drive from the international airport in Faro. There a number of flights that land in Faro and so it is easy to reach Tavira. The restaurants in Tavira open in the evening from 7 pm. This allows a person to have a peaceful meal without having to wait for a long time.

Tavira has wonderful and magnificent beaches which are located in Rio Formosa. It is a very hot tourist spot where a lot of beach activities occur like surfing, swimming, gliding and also sea biking. There are consistent boat transfers for boat riding through the beaches. The beaches also have good bars and restaurants that offer great seafood in Portuguese style.
