Having visited the wine country of California can prove to be quite expensive, especially the well-known areas such as Sonoma County and Napa Valley. There’re several good gourmet restaurants and hotels in California. It’s a known fact that quality does not come cheap. Napa valley works on the principle of ‘Pay and get the service’. Majority of wineries in California charge for touring the vineyards and have their wines sampled at the time of wine tasting. Sometimes, this rate is as less as $5. at times, it can be >$10 as well. For certain wineries, tourism has become a part and parcel of business of theirs as that of wine-making. The others prefer of keeping tourism low-key and have their attention concentrated on the thing that actually matters, i.e. converting grapes in to fine wine.
Certain California Vineyard Tours present proper value for money, but not every one of them. If you end up paying around $10 and get only a splash (of wine), give it a second thought. You are paying for trying a huge spectrum of wines. However, you would observe that 4 or 5 splashes do not amount to a great deal with respect to the wine used. You would be batter having ten bucks spent on a single bottle. If this thing happens twice or thrice at the time of California Wine Country Tour of yours, the option of purchasing a new brand wine bottle for around $30 would be better.
