The islands of Wallis and Futuna are quite popular with tourists owing to the tremendous natural beauty found on these islands. These islands are volcanic and the terrain here is full of gently rolling hills which are full of vegetation. These islands are ideal for trekking or hiking and camping sites can also be found at regular intervals. There are a lot of companies offering hiking trips and most of these trips are well organized and well planned. The capital of the Wallis and Futuna Islands is the city of Mata – Utu. This city is quite a nice place to visit and has a very quaint and homely air to it. There are a lot of visible French influences which can be seen in this city.
What to do on the islands
The main thing to do for tourists on the Wallis and Futuna group of island is to visit multitudes of almost deserted beaches. Most of these beaches are pristine and the water is crystal clear and the sand is sparkling white. The beaches are quite safe but tourists are advised to carry along high intensity sunscreen lotion. There are lots of companies and establishments which offer water sports facilities. Facilities range from snorkeling and diving to windsurfing and wave surfing. Parasailing facilities are also quite common and having an aerial view of the islands is a real treat.
