A new start up airline, Kiss Flights, will be offering flights to Lanzarote next summer. Along with services to ten other popular holiday destinations across Europe. In a move that provides a further fillip for Lanzarote´s tourist industry.
Kiss Flights describe themselves as a “dynamic travel company” and have been created by Gatwick based aviation brokers Meridian Aviation. The new company’s senior management comprises personnel from Freedom Flights, the seat only arm of XL Holidays who collapsed earlier this year. And Kiss Flights will be servicing many of the same destinations too – including seven Greek Islands, Dalaman, the Egyptian Red Sea Resorts and Tenerife – as well as Lanzarote.
According to Kiss Flights:”We’ve chosen the most popular destinations including Egypt, Greece, Turkey and the Canary Islands specifically for the independent travel trade and with the dynamic packaging market firmly in mind.”
The company is ATOL bonded and intend to offer price inducements for early bookings via a low deposit payment scheme. Rewarding early bookers with lower prices.
Initially Kiss will be operating a weekly service to Lanzarote from Gatwick from May onwards on Boeing 737´s. With a scheduled departure time of 05.00 – arriving at Arrecife airport at around 09.00. Return flights are scheduled to depart Lanzarote at 10.05. Touching down at Gatwick at 14.10. Prices for return flights in May start from around £200.
The news provides a further fillip for Lanzarote´s tourist industry. Which continues to perform well in the UK market place, despite the credit crunch, falling pound and failing airlines. With British visitor numbers up 6.42% for the year to date versus 2007. According to figures recently released by Spanish airport authority AENA. Whilst visitor numbers from other key markets such as Eire have also risen year on year.
Owners of apartments and holiday villas in Lanzarote will be amongst the main beneficiaries of this increase in business. As the island´s hotels only account for one third of Lanzarote´s total tourist capacity of around 65,000 beds. With the bulk allocated to apartment complexes and privately owned holiday properties.
