Travellers with Disabilities or Medical Conditions

General

If you are a disabled traveller or planning to travel with a family member or friend that is disabled, then there are arrangements you will need to make in order to ensure that your trip is as comfortable as possible. There are many companies in the UK that will help disabled travellers to make arrangements for their holiday.

If you are planning to hire a car, or mini bus for your travels then you will need to make sure that the vehicles offered by the company have a good selection of facilities for disabled travellers, such as a ramp or lift for wheelchair users.

If you are planning to stay in a hotel when you reach your destination, then be sure to check that there are facilities for disabled travellers, such as toilets with the right facilities. If you have a medical condition, then make sure that you are well enough to travel before you make arrangements and check if any equipment that you need for your condition is suitable when it comes to checking in at the airport.

If you have an existing condition but are well enough to travel, make sure that there are plenty of medical services in the area that you are travelling to in case you become unwell. You will certainly wish to make arrangements with your insurance company to cover any medical costs whilst you are away. If you are unsure about your medical condition or have recently been unwell then it may be best to postpone your trip until your health returns.
