By Mark Booth, The Stag Company

There’s an increasingly fertile market for men seeking a stag weekend that is more aspirational than your standard ransacking of an Eastern European city. This trend might suggest that there is a breed of man taking a more aspirational approach to their leisure time, shying away from the tried paths and heading for cities that one might associate more with a romantic city break than a stag do destination. Barcelona is one such city seeing an increase in enquires and bookings for pre-wedding parties from men fond of fine dining, culture and, of course, football. Yep, the Barcelona stag do is a sure-fire winner for the thinking man.

The city is almost divided into two by the pedestrian Ramblas, which is a hive of activity with market stalls, restaurants and bars flanking the tree-lined avenue. On the eastern side is Old Town and to the west are the modern shopping boulevards. Port Veil, the harbour, is also worthy of further inspection, thanks to its upmarket restaurants and picturesque views. The city racks up its Michelin stars in this area with pan-Asian restaurants and modern takes on rustic Catalan dishes served up, meaning there’s much more than tapas and paella to tempt those taste buds if you’re looking to go further than merely lining your stomach or a night on the tiles.

Culture-buffs will find plenty to scratch their chins and muster up appreciate grunts to in Barcelona and that’s even before they find their way into a building. Old Town is a feast for the eyes with its ornate architecture and selection of museums and galleries. The city is known for its intrinsic ties to Gaudi who designed many of the buildings found here, noted for their distinctive spires and rich palate of colours.

There’s an artistic element to the way in which Leo Messi and co. go about their football – fortunately, thanks to the sheer scale of the Nou Camp, Barcelona’s home stadium, there’s a good chance of getting tickets for a match there, particularly for league fixtures. Even if your trip doesn’t coincide with a home fixture at the European Champions’ home, you can still have a tour of the stadium; one of only few UEFA endorsed 5 star stadiums on the continent. You’ll have a chance to sit in the dressing room, walk down the tunnel and sit in Pep Guardiola’s seat at the scene of so many famous victories.

As for night-time activities, Barcelona is without parallel in Europe. Perhaps you’d be best served giving Las Ramblas a swerve as the bars and clubs here are avoided by locals – their high drink prices make them little more than tourist traps. Instead, to get an authentic taste of Barcelona by night, take a step off the tried path to be rewarded with a distinctive and memorable night’s fun. The Gothic quarter has scores of top night spots hidden away, including La Divina, Sugar and Nevermind. Plaza Real is also a firm favourite with travellers to the city and is also worthy of further research. For those that like to get themselves suited and booted for a night out, your first port of call should be El Born, which is central and boasts many upmarket spots with beautiful interiors and superior drinks.

Though it might sound obvious, the best thing to do is to get your research in before you travel – that way you can steer clear of activities, clubs and bars that are little more than rip-offs for foolhardy travellers and build your own Barcelona stag do adventure.

To find out more about a Barcelona stag weekend, visit The Stag Company website or call 01273 225 070.

Spain has been at the top of the list of popular holiday destinations for many years now. The attraction for most UK holiday makers is of course the relatively short travel time, fantastic climate, wide use of English language and a large number of cheap package holiday deals to name but a few.

When Spain is mentioned a lot of people immediately think of beach holidays and cheap package holidays, although there are many other excellent reasons to visit Spain. I have put together a list of my top 5 things to do and would encourage anyone going on holidays to Spain to make time for a least a couple of them.

1.	Running of the Bulls: Every year thousands of people from all over the world flock to the streets of Pamplona to take part in Spain’s most famous fiesta to honour the Navarre capital’s patron saint, San Fermin. Anyone can take part although it can be very dangerous and probably best to watch from a safe distance!

2.	Visit the Nou Camp: The home of FC Barcelona, the Nou Camp is the largest stadium in Europe with a capacity just short of 100,000. It truly is a sight to behold and if you only see one thing in Barcelona make it this.

3.	Gaudi’s Barcelona: Antoni Gaudi was a unique and hugely talented architect. His work has a huge influence on Barcelona and you can see examples of this all over the city.

4.	Tapas: Wherever you are in Spain tapas is a must. It is not a specific food type, but a way of eating. You will usually get a number of small portions of food such as chorizo, potatoes and tiger prawns.

5.	Golfing At Valderrama: Valderrama is regarded by many to be the number 1 course in Europe. The 17th is notoriously difficult and tests the skills of even the top pros.

As you can see there are a whole host of options when it comes to holidays in Spain and you are sure to have a fun packed holiday whatever you decide to do.

Barcelona – Site of 1992 Olympic Games

Barcelona has undergone sea change in terms of overall development since the hosting of 1992 Olympic Games. This event has been instrumental in complete transformation of Barcelona. Earlier, it used to be a rundown and boring industrial center with very few touristic offerings. Now, Barcelona has umpteen sporting facilities, in addition to other major investments. Barcelona is the second biggest city of Spain and Catalonia’s capital. Catalonia is one of Spain’s seventeen regions. Barcelona is a treasure house of historical buildings and architecture and none of this has been overshadowed by the latest construction and development. Rather, the new and old have blended so well and co-exist and in perfect harmony. You can see the old charm combining beautifully with the contemporary buildings.

About Barcelona

Barcelona is strategically located near the French border and has a huge Mediterranean coastline. The city is bustling with many kinds of industries like textiles, manufacturing, tourism and electronics and many more. The independent character of people is maintained very well by preserving the patriotic feelings quite strongly. You can see this to be prominently evident in Camp Nou, the home of Europe’s famous football team, Barcelona FC, when the crowds fiercely cheer on the home winning team.

Barcelona Climate and Time to Visit

Barcelona enjoys a balmy climate all through the year and hence, it is major hit with the tourists. The cheap air fare also makes Barcelona all the more popular and it has become all time favorite short break tourist destination of Europe. There are many low cost air carriers operating flights to Barcelona like ClickAir, EasyJet, RyanAir, Jet2.com, Vueling, Blue Air and Sterling Airlines and so on. The busiest time in Barcelona is in August. Barcelona is made up of many quarters and the most significant and interesting ones from tourist view point include Ciutat Vella, Eixample, Gracia and Barceloneta.

Getting In and Going Around

Barcelona can be reached easily by planes, rail, boats and buses. Barcelona can be best explored by Bus Turistic that links all the major tourist sites in the city. You can take the metro rail also to travel around the city. The exotic modes of transport include Tramvia Blau and Funicular. Biking is very cheap in Barcelona and you can easily rent bicycles. There are many bike tours available. If you are driving outside the city, then car is a viable option, otherwise parking is very costly near the famous tourist destinations.

Tourist Attractions

Barcelona has ample tourist attractions like La Rambla, Placa d’Espanya, Barri Gotic, Sant Pau del Camp, La Placa Reial, Tibidabo, Montjuic Castle, FC Barcelona, Olympic Port, Barcelona Zoo, Poble Espanyol, Palau Nacional, Palau de la Musica Catalana,Monestir de Pedralbes, L’Aquarium, Hotel Majestic and Hospital de Sant Pau in addition to many more. Barcelona houses many notable museums like MNAC, MHC, MACBA, Museum of City of Barcelona, Picasso Museum, Caixa Forum, Joan Miro Museum, Fundacio Antoni Tapies, Football Museum, Catalan Archeological Museum, Military Museum and Maritime Museum, Ceramic Museum and many more.

Barcelona has excellent festivals and events that are full of arts, entertainment, theater and you surely must witness all these interesting events. Barcelona is throbbing with activity at all times and has an exciting nightlife too. So, pack your bags and head for a Barcelona holiday.
