When planning a winter city break you have some great options, whether you are looking for a winter sun holiday with sandy beaches and relaxation, or a chance to visit famous museums and monuments without the tourist crowds you inevitably have to cope with in the height of summer.

Below, we look at 5 great winter city break destinations:

Paris, France

Paris is a great city destination at any time of year for those looking for romance and culture. During the winter months, the queues for attractions are often shorter and you can explore at a more leisurely pace. You can either take a guided tour of some of the more popular attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, the Gothic masterpiece which is Cathédrale Notre-Dame or the Louvre, or strike out on your own to find some of the many museums and galleries here.

The oldest area of the city is Cite Island, on the Seine River. Here you will find the some of the oldest buildings in Paris along with les Arenes de Lutece, a Roman Arena. During the winter, ice skating rings appear at the Montparnasse and the Hotel de Ville.

Find great designer shops at the Marias as well as the many boutiques and concept stores throughout the city. There are also some great markets, such as the Porte de Clignancourt, Marché aux Puces de Vanves and St Ouen flea market. There are also many speciality markets including a book market and a stamp market.

Paris is famous for its jazz scene and there are plenty of venues where you can enjoy live music from local talent as well as internationally renowned artists. Alternatively, enjoy the best of cabaret at the Moulin Rouge. Getting around Paris is simple by Metro or bus. Taxis are also readily available.

St Petersburg, Russia

St Petersburg in Russia is a magical place to visit in winter. Made up of many islands connected by ornate bridges, it is a perfect romantic setting. There are many galleries and museums here, including the State Hermitage Museum, which is a stunning collection of art housed in the palace once occupied by the Romanov Tsars, rulers of Russia.

Soak up some culture at the Mariinsky Theatre, home to the Kirov Ballet and Opera Company, either enjoy a live performance or simply take in the beautiful interior. Visit the Mendeleev Museum, the building where Dmitry Mendeleev compiled the periodic table of elements. You can see the study where he worked and some early drafts of his completed work. The city’s oldest monastery is the Alexander Nevsky Monastery. It is still a working Russian Orthodox Monastery and many famous Russian figures are buried here.

Miami, USA

For an escape from the winter chill, Miami is an ideal city break with plenty to do for couples, groups and families. With over fifteen miles of sandy beaches, it is great for those who want to relax in the sun.

For the more active, there are plenty of water sports such as surfing, jet skiing and sailing. You can also take a tour of the famous Cape Florida Lighthouse, which is located in Bill Baggs State Park.

Miami is also famous for its shopping, the most well known being Miracle Mile, although there are many others. If you are looking for great family days out, then Miami has many options. Miami Metro Zoo allows you to experience exotic animals from Australia, Africa and Asia as you would on a safari. Instead of cages, the animals are enclosed by a system of moats in the 300 acre park.

At Miami’s Seaquarium, close to Biscayne Bay, you can visit sea turtles, seals, sea lions as well as see performances by resident dolphins and killer whales.

Dubai, UAE

The stunning city of Dubai is a great winter break due to its warm weather and great architecture and is home to the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa. This is a shopper’s paradise, with huge malls providing much more than shopping and restaurants. The Dubai Mall also plays host to an ice rink, a theme park, a children’s world, an aquarium and live entertainment. The Mall of the Emirates boasts a ski slope and a snow park for children.

Along the beach front in the Dubai Marina lies the Jumeirah Beach Walk, where you can enjoy shops, restaurants and cafes. This, along with water parks, public parks with children’s playgrounds and aquariums, make this a great locations. Thrill seekers can try desert surfing or skiing, or take a camel ride or tour of the desert. If you want to find out more about Dubai’s history, visit the Dubai Heritage and Diving Villages.

Sydney, Australia

Australia’s capital city, Sydney, is a great destination. With a year round warm climate, winter is a great time to visit. Among the great beaches here, Bondi Beach is the most popular, with sunbathing and water sports such as body boarding and surfing.

The iconic Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge are must see stops during your visit. Go on a Bridge Climb tour for fantastic views across the City. Alternatively, visit Sydney Tower, which is 260 metres above street level.

The botanic gardens are well worth a visit, an oasis of calm in the city centre and a great way of finding out about local flora. There are also fascinating wildlife centres here as well as museums, theatres and galleries. Along with great shopping opportunities, fantastic food and a great night life, Sydney offers something for everyone making the long haul flight well worth it!

Decent sunny weather creates lots of positive energy, and this optimism tends to have a knock on effect. Before you know it, all of London is smiling – and it is this that creates the glorious British summer. If you book ahead of the game you should be able to secure a room in one of London’s cheap hotels.

A summer vacation to London is ideal because there’s so much going on outdoors. Spitalfields Market is a great place to visit if you want to spend a day rummaging through stalls in search of something extra special. Admiring the street art of the East End is also a popular pastime, and you can pop into the many vintage shops if you need a fashion fix.

Make your way south across the river and have a gander at Borough Market, where you’ll find an abundance of fancy foods, fresh fruit and vegetables. Stroll along the River Thames to the South Bank, where you’ll find yourself bemused by the many crowd pleasers here. On this stretch of the river you can gaze up at the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. See the city from an alternative view point by hopping on the London Eye, where your time spent queuing will be rewarded with magnificent views across London.

Victoria Park also hosts some great outdoor events in the summer, such as Groove Armada’s Lovebox Weekender in July and Field Day in August. There are lots of spectacular flower arrangements in the park, making it a great place to come for a summer’s day picnic. If you want to make the most of the sunshine, jump on a river cruise down the Thames, as this is a great way to spend an afternoon. After a fun-filled day of exploring the city, head back to one of many London hotels for some rest and recuperation. There are a number of hotels in London, varying in price and quality, so there is definitely something to suit everyone’s needs and budgets.

Ever since the emergence of cheap flights to New York, we have flocked to this glamorous cultural hotspot to be reinvigorated, inspired and of course to hit the shops. But while you are in the Big Apple, it would be churlish not to explore the culinary delights of this cosmopolitan fruit salad of a city. So what are the local delicacies? Is it all about hotdogs and enormous all day breakfasts? – No!

Let’s start with some New York Jewish favourites. The Reuben sandwich is famous and is made with rye bread, Swiss cheese, corned beef, and sauerkraut. It’s grilled and served hot. Other mouth-watering Jewish dishes in New York that must be tried are beef brisket, pastrami, falafel, flat breads and chicken liver. And don’t forget the many varieties of irresistible, hunger-slaying bagel.

Schnitzels and sauerbraten anyone? You can find all manner of delicious German and Eastern European food in New York thanks to the multicultural mix of immigrants to the Big Apple. For some of the best Bavarian beer gardens outside Germany, this is the place to go.

If you love Jamaican food, then you are in luck. From jerk chicken to coconut and nutmeg tarts, it’s all around you. There are fantastic street vendors and restaurants where you can hear the relaxed beat of Caribbean reggae while you munch on authentic Caribbean cuisine.

Classic Italian dishes such as pasta puttanesca are as good if not better than you’ll find in the mother country. The experience of dining out at a New York Italian restaurant will spoil you – the local Italian diner back home can never live up to it. Try Italian sausage, meatballs and polenta in one of New York’s famed Italian restaurants.

Many famous dishes were invented in New York, such as Eggs Benedict, the Waldorf Salad and Lobster Newburg. That’s not counting all the cocktails that have been created in this joyful, frenetic city. Even the street food is more varied and exciting than anywhere else –there’s a world of delicious snacks available on the streets of New York. Right on the sidewalk you can buy Chinese dumplings, Italian rice balls and delicious Thai delicacies. Cheap flights to New York make a gourmet trip so easy and affordable.

Not only does the cultural diversity of this city bring some of the world’s best cuisines to your plate, but it also provides the most incredible range of music styles. If you are thinking of booking cheap flights to New York, then don’t forget to line up a few music venues and clubs after dinner. You won’t regret it. Having a reputation as a bedrock of the jazz and blues scene, New York boasts some of the finest musicians around. The famous Carnegie hall is where you’ll see the headline acts, but head to smaller clubs and drinking dens for the best of latin, soul, hip hop, folk, rock and pop.

It seems as if every street, and just around every corner is a world renowned historical landmark, and incredibly well stocked Museum, the birthplace of a famous author, the world’s most famous shopping streets, and thousands of other major and minor attractions beckoning visitors.

Piccadilly is every bit as iconic as New York’s Times Square with its massive flashing neon signs and never ending hustle and bustle. Portobello Road offers classic English market day shopping for everything from fashion to great antiques. The West End is renowned as the world’s greatest theatre district where every day the very highest level of theatrical and musical performances take place.

In the evening some of the world’s greatest eateries open their doors including those run by the best-known chefs on the planet such as Gordon Ramsay at Claridges, and L’atelier De Joël Robuchon or Babylon At The Roof Gardens.

The list of major attractions spread across the city is enormous, the Tower of London is one of the world’s most visited attractions, the London Eye propels you above the city for incredible views and photo opportunities. Big Ben and Tower Bridge are perhaps the most common images when anyone pictures this historic capital city.

Perhaps unlike any other city in the world London really can claim to be an absolute Mecca for tourists regardless of their interests. Now visitlondon.com has put out a promotional video to give just a short glimpse of what visitors can expect from this magnificent and ancient city.

We all enjoy being pampered every now and then. That’s exactly what many of us look for in a holiday; to be able to fully relax and forget about everyday life in a world away from all the stresses and worries of work. The first way to ensure this is the case is to stay in a luxurious hotel for the duration of your break, and if you’re planning to head to the Big Apple then the Hilton Hotel New York will leave you wanting for nothing.

A trip to New York is many people’s idea of a perfect holiday. The bustling city on the east coast of America is a shopper’s paradise, home to a vast array of attractions and offers a unique holiday experience. Renowned as the city that never sleeps, you certainly won’t be short of things to do while in New York, but when it is finally time to hit the sack after a long day of sightseeing you won’t be disappointed with the choice of hotels.

As a busy tourist destination, New York is home to a huge number of hotels, but they don’t all offer the luxury that the Hilton does. The four star accommodation is in a prime location in the heart of the city, just a few streets away from Times Square, and the aesthetically stunning building is pretty special inside, too. The rooms ooze quality, and everything is provided so that you can have a relaxing stay, from air conditioning so you can stay nice and cool to a refreshment centre.

One thing that you’ll be looking forward to on a trip to New York is being fed well and getting to eat plenty of tasty food. While there are many top restaurants scattered around the city, the Hilton hotel itself has its own eateries. If you’re after a traditional American breakfast in the morning to set you up for the day ahead, then the New York Marketplace is your best bet, while the Etrusca Restaurant serves delicious Italian cuisine.

If you decide to stay at the Hilton, then the nearby Times Square in Manhattan will likely be one of the first attractions you visit. The entertainment district of New York, Times Square is home to the Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood; restaurants that are attractions themselves. It’s at night that Times Square really comes to life, with the signage illuminating the whole area.

Times Square is a must-visit area whenever you choose to go to New York, but if you’re in the Big Apple for New Year’s Eve then there is nowhere else to be. It’s the site of the ball drop, and will be full of New Yorkers and tourists alike as everyone looks to start the new year with a bang. Around one million people descend on the square and its surroundings, while at other notable dates such as Halloween it will also be full with people.

The Rockefeller Center and Broadway are notable areas close to Times Square, and can all be easily accessed from hotels New York Midtown has to offer. The Hilton is one of these, but there is plenty of accommodation that might be more to your taste and fit in well with your holiday budget. The Holiday Inn is an example of this and while saving money you won’t have any complaints about the level of comfort offered.

The Best Western President Hotel at Times Square really is ideally situated for access to the city’s top attractions. The aforementioned Times Square is right on your doorstep, while the Rockefeller Center is just a short walk away along 47th Street. The hotel itself is something to behold as well, with rooms fully equipped with wireless Internet and a 42-inch TV, so you can sit back and relax with amazing facilities at your fingertips.

The nearby Rockefeller Center hosts one of the most famous theatres in the world, the Radio City Music Hall, and the centre is home to many more forms of entertainment as well. A national historic landmark, the lower plaza houses an ice skating rink where tourists of all ages can release their inner child. The Top of the Rock observation deck is also the perfect place to enjoy breathtaking views of New York and give you a perspective on just how vast the city is.

Another building in New York that offers you this luxury is the Empire State. One of the tallest buildings in the world, unsurprisingly the observational decks are extremely popular with visitors as they strive to get a panoramic view of the Big Apple. The stunning skyscraper is as aesthetically incredible as the views of the city you get while in it, and you’ll greatly admire the Art Deco architecture.

Another landmark that has become synonymous with New York and the surrounding area is the Statue of Liberty. Situated on Liberty Island in New York’s harbour, the neoclassical sculpture is the subject of hundreds of thousands of photos from tourists every year. The ferry you can get on to catch a glimpse of the landmark will also allow you to investigate Liberty State Park and Battery Park, with the ferries stopping at both islands.

One green space in particular is a major tourist attraction in New York. Central Park is a great place to enjoy a picnic and allows you to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Also situated in Manhattan, the park continues to be excellently conserved and you can embark on many activities within its boundaries. This includes everything from going boating on the lake to visiting the zoo, in which the indoor rainforest is one of the stand-out features.

Due to the vast amount of attractions and iconic landmarks the city is home to, New York will always be an extremely popular tourist destination. With a wide choice of hotels online and access to reviews that will give you a better idea about what each accommodation offers, you can ensure your stay in the Big Apple is perfect.

New York City is not only one of the greatest tourist destinations, but it is also a city with a large variety of attractions to satisfy the tastes of any age group.

There are, of course, the usual sightseeing of the Statute of Liberty, Central Park, the ice skating rink at Rockefeller Centre, Times Square, Wall Street, United Nations, the fashionable shops of Fifth Avenue, Broadway theatres, the Empire State Building, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Bronx Zoo, and so much more.

The South Street Seaport gives an opportunity to tour historic ships or take a boat trip to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. There are up-scale stores and plenty of restaurants and cafes along cobblestone streets as well as festivities and exhibits. Pier 17 often has live entertainment.

The Metropolitan Museum has permanent exhibits as well as large collections that are rotated from time to time. You can walk in its Temple of Dendur, an Egyptian Temple from 15 B.C. with carved graffiti that goes back to the early 19th century. The American Art wing has the famous painting of George Washington crossing the Delaware. Fashions from all ages are in the Costume Institute, and there are historical and rare instruments in the Musical Instruments exhibit. The finest armour exhibit in the United States is in the Arms and Armour section.

For the “techies”, plan to go to the Apple Store where you can take an elevator to go underground to view the most recent high tech offerings and use computers for free. The Nintendo World Store has many displays as well as the latest games that you can stop and play. The Virgin Megastore is not only one of the largest record stores in the city but also has clothes and video games.

For young children there is the Big Apple Circus which is in town in the fall and winter with its circus favourites including clowns and acrobats; also the Disney Store on Fifth Avenue with activities and “the happiest store clerks on earth”. The younger folks would also enjoy the free Sony Wonder Technology Lab with a movie studio, simulators, robot control, and other wonders. Girls enjoy the American Girl Place with each doll coming with its own stories and accessories. Your daughter or grand-daughter can spend time in the doll salon with her new purchase or in the attached cafe. Although located away from the main strip, the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory presents a “fun” time.

For chocolate lovers of all ages there is Max Brenner’s (Chocolate by the Bald Man) on East Broadway between 13th and 14th Street. This unique place grinds its own cacao beans and churns its own chocolate and then offers a mouth-watering menu including chocolate mousse, fruit and marshmallows for dipping in a chocolate fondue, a steamed chocolate pudding with a molten centre of dark chocolate mixed with raspberry sauce, and other decadent items.

Walking food tours are very popular and give you a chance to sample a large variety of local favourite foods while touring neighbourhoods and learning about their history and culture.

For cheap flights to New York visit Netflights and for cheap hotels visit Hotels.com.

In 2009 the American travel guide Frommer’s listed its top twelve destinations for holidaymakers worldwide, with Belfast the only UK city on the list. For anyone whose impression of the city is still influenced by the “Troubles” of past years, this may come as a surprise, but another look will quickly change that impression.

Belfast is rapidly becoming a major tourist destination, especially for people from other parts of Britain who have never visited. Several international cruise lines are now docking at the newly revamped Waterfront, and two airports offer service from the rest of the British Isles, continental Europe and now North America, with the number of flights to Belfast increasing every year which ensures there are plenty of cheap flights on offer.

A relatively compact city, Belfast is ideal for exploration on foot, but there is also good bus service and many excellent tours are available. On the East side there are numerous sites of interest including the historic shipyards of Harland and Wolff where the Titanic and her sister ships were built and launched.

The ‘Titanic Quarter’ includes the area owned by the shipyards and is in the process of major development as a high-tech business and entertainment complex. Nearby is the new Odyssey complex with the largest indoor venue in Ireland, an arena seating 10,000 for an exciting variety of sports events, concerts and other live performances. The area also boasts some of the best restaurants, nightclubs and pubs in Northern Ireland.

Belfast hosts a myriad of cultural attractions, such as the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, the Grand Opera House and Belfast Castle, and many historic old buildings have been beautifully and meticulously restored.

However, culture here includes the art of having fun, or “the crack” and there are plenty of spots where just having a roaring good time is the name of the game. Don’t miss the Crown Liquor Saloon, in its gas-lit Victorian splendor that would be overwhelming it weren’t so inviting. In fact if pub-crawling is a pastime you enjoy, take an official pub tour, which starts at the Crown and travels to six other delightful establishments.

Accommodations are plentiful and generally of very high calibre. For example, the Europa Hotel in the city centre is infamous as “the most bombed hotel in the world”, but now it has been restored to marvelous heights of elegance and luxury. For less lavish tastes, some of the very best B & B lodgings in the U.K. can be found within easy walking distance of top-notch shopping, dining and entertainment.

Within an hour of the city, visitors with a little time to spare can go fishing at Fermanaough, hike the glorious Mountains of Mourne, play golf on the oldest and best courses in Northern Ireland and much more. Cave Hill, rising to 370 metres, offers a most spectacular view not only of Belfast and environs but (on a clear day) all the way to the Isle of Man and Scotland.

For a superb introduction to Belfast and its history as well as its vibrant and energetic growth, visitors are advised to take advantage of the deservedly famous Black Cab Tour, a truly exceptional close-up perspective on this fascinating city.

Prague is a European city that is known across the world for being an architectural delight full of fabulous sights. Many of the Prague hotels themselves are stunning and it is no surprise that the centre of the Czech capital is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For many tourists visiting Prague, sightseeing is right at the top of their agenda as they plan to sample the city’s magnificent architectural offerings. From Prague Castle to the Astronomical Clock, there are certainly plenty of things to take in and a sightseeing tour could well take up a whole day of your break.

Prague is not only known for its sights though – the city is renowned for its cultural heritage that will shine through on a trip to the capital of the Czech Republic. From traditional Czech entertainment to the country’s cuisine served up in Prague’s top restaurants, the city oozes culture.

Art is something that features heavily in Prague and photography in particular is enjoying something of a revival in the Czech city. The Prague House of Photography, which has a new permanent home on Revolucni Street, features many photography galleries.

Work by home-grown photographers such as Josef Sudek and Jan Saudek have become renowned across the world and now feature in the building. Classic Czech photography is being mixed with more modern trends and the collection of photos is bound to please everyone’s tastes.

If you fancy taking some photos for yourself then there are plenty of picture-perfect places dotted around the city. Prague Castle is one of the most photographed monuments in the city, but the Vltava River runs it close and provides a serene backdrop for any photo.

Contemporary art is becoming more prominent in Prague and the DOX art centre that was opened in 2008 puts the city at the forefront of modern art. An ever-changing roster of small and larger exhibitions can be viewed by visitors to the gallery and both Czech and international art is featured.

Alongside art, there is also a thriving music scene in Prague and there are many local artists that are well worth checking out. Folk rockers Cechomor are one of the most famous local bands, but plenty more local musical talent can be heard at the Akrpolis art deco theatre. The Lucerna Music Bar is also a good place to catch some jazz music and blues bands.

Prague’s music hall, the Rudolfinum, regularly hosts orchestral music by musicians from around the world. The base of the Prague National Orchestra, the Rudolfinum is a well preserved classical building that has stunning architecture as well as fantastic acoustics.

At night Prague hosts some very lively nightlife and there are many bars and clubs across the city where visitors can have an incredibly good time. Clubbers can get a feeling of freedom as they dance long into the night and Stare Misto is the place to head to if you are looking for a lively evening.

If you are thinking of taking a romantic trip to Prague where clubbing might not be on your list of things to do then there are few better surroundings to make a romantic gesture. The old-world glamour of the Czech capital can be incredibly romantic, and an evening walk along the Vltava River may just do the trick.

Prague is home to a number of luxurious hotels that will tick all of the boxes as far as romance is concerned. If you are really looking to impress your loved one then a stay in one of the city’s 5-star accommodations is probably the way to go.

One Prague hotel that is the ultimate in luxury is the Alchymist Grand Hotel and Spa. This exclusive and charming hotel is only a five minute walk from Charles Bridge and is therefore perfect for tourists looking to go on an evening stroll by the river.

The hotel consists of 15th century buildings that have been fully restored and preserved so that the history of the buildings has been kept. The spa is the perfect location to relax after a day of walking around Prague and guests have everything that they could ever need available to them.

There are many other hotels in Prague that serve as the base for a romantic getaway and there are some fantastic deals to be had. The 4-star Hotel Waldstein is located in the heart of Prague and its prices are very competitive. The building has been included in the Czech National Heritage list and the beautifully decorated rooms are ideal for a pleasant stay.

One thing essential to a romantic evening is a great meal in a high-quality restaurant. Prague certainly doesn’t disappoint on this front and there are plenty of restaurants in which you can dine in style and enjoy some unforgettable food.

One restaurant that has tableside views of Charles Bridge and could not be located in a more stunning place is Kampa Park. Gourmet seafood is served in this restaurant, which has received critical acclaim ever since it first opened. Lobster tail and wild mushroom risotto are two of the most popular dishes and seafood lovers will be in their element.

If you like to fully experience the culture of a city when you go on holiday then it is essential that you visit one of Prague’s pubs and experience some of the local delicacies. Raw beef on deep-fried toast is a local favourite and many pubs such as the Pivnice u Pivrnce feature the dish on their menu.

Prague is the ideal destination for a romantic holiday, but this doesn’t mean the Czech capital cannot be enjoyed just as much by groups of friends. The city is a real sightseeing treat and the history and heritage of Prague will leave many visitors speechless.

How you spend your evenings is Prague is up to you, but you will have just as good a time following a delicious meal with a romantic walk along the river as you will drinking the night away and partying in one of Prague’s many clubs.

year’s second most important European football event. With its maritime flair, countless tourist highlights and its world-famous entertainment district, the Reeperbahn, Hamburg is the perfect location for the final of this newly formed league. Not only in the UK is Hamburg regarded as Europe’s favourite party and sports mecca.

But football isn’t the only reason to visit Hamburg and the Reeperbahn, the city’s renowned entertainment distric Reputed to be Europe’s largest entertainment district, the famous Reeperbahn is unlike any other street in the world. There is hardly any other street in the world with such a legendary reputation attached to it, and no other street has so many tales to tell. The Reeperbahn was originally a somewhat shabby red-light district for seafarers and sailors. However, by the 1960s and 70s it had turned into a stepping stone for popular culture, with the Beatles as the most striking example. Ever since the 1990s, the Reeperbahn has turned into one of the world’s most vibrating and creative entertainment districts. With hundreds of bars, pubs and clubs, some of Europe’s best live music venues and a creative community that comes second to none, the Reeperbahn is definitely the place to go to celebrate the outcome of the final.

But also during the day, Hamburg offers a wide range of tourist highlights such as Europe’s largest inner-city port and the highly innovative urban development project HafenCity Hamburg with its historic warehouse district Speicherstadt attached to it. Other points of interest include the work in progress on the Elbe Philharmonic Hall – Hamburg’s new landmark – as well as the beautiful Alster lake that is located amidst the buzz of the city centre with its countless shopping opportunities. In Hamburg’s trendy, up-and-coming neighbourhoods, North European design blends with an almost Mediterranean flair. On the day following the final, the Queen Mary2, Queen of the Oceans and the world’s longest cruise liner, will arrive in the port of Hamburg and will be welcomed by hundreds of thousands of onlookers from all over the world.

Each year, more and more British tourists make Hamburg their destination. Whether you fancy a shopping weekend, a cultural trip or if you want to follow the footsteps of the Beatles on the Reeperbahn – Hamburg is the place to be. There are now 150,000 overnight bookings per year from UK visitors, taking advantage of excellent low-fare flight connections between Hamburg and the UK: for example, EasyJet offers flights from Luton and Gatwick to Hamburg for as little as £45 return.

Situated on the River Clyde to the west of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, Glasgow is Scotland’s biggest city and this is reflected in the vast amount of things to do for visitors who travel to Glasgow.

There are so many attractions to visit in Glasgow that when it comes to selecting from one of the dozens of places to stay in Glasgow in which you can stay, the choice is down to you as all are conveniently located for visitors to explore the city. There are hotels available to stay in near all of the attractions such as the Botanic Gardens or the City Chambers, and your budget will go a long way as accommodation within the city is generally reasonably priced.

After selecting a Glasgow hotel, whether its that comfortable bed and breakfast accommodation or a boutique hotel such as the Abode Hotel located in the city centre near the Pavilion Theatre, visitors have a high number of attractions to visit. Glasgow is home to a large amount of museums and galleries in which each you can spend a couple of enjoyable hours, whilst there is lots of entertainment for tourists to enjoy at night as well.

Glasgow is an ideal holiday destination for art lovers as the Scottish city is home to a number of leading art galleries. The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum for example houses a famous collection of impressionist paintings, whilst the Burrell Collection in Pollok Country Park features an eclectic collection of art donated to Glasgow by Glaswegian shipping merchant Sir William Burrell. House For An Art Lover, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, is yet another cultural attraction that features recent research on Glasgow’s most famous architect.

There are also many other cultural attractions within Glasgow that are well worth a visit and illustrate the history of the city. The Willow Tea Rooms that were designed by Mackintosh in 1904 are an important part of Glasgow’s history, and the Tall Ship at Glasgow Harbour is also one of the city’s leading attractions that will interest every member of the family.

Tourists who visit Glasgow will quickly become aware of the variety of entertainment that they can enjoy, from opera and ballet that takes place every night in theatres across the city, to modern music concerts that can be watched in arenas such as the Carling Academy. Glasgow is also well renowned for the amount of festivals that it hosts throughout the year such as the Glasgow Art Fair, which are all lively occasions that match the interest that the Edinburgh Festival receives.

The availability of cheap hotels in Glasgow makes the Scottish city a bargain holiday destination in which tourists can enjoy a great value weekend break in Glasgow. There are plenty of places to stay and things to do and with the various attractions complemented by the dozens of festivals that take place across the year, visitors will not be left short of things to do.

Munich’s ktoberfest takes place this year from September 19th to October 4th. Oktoberfest has a history dating back to 1810, when King Ludwig I Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen and the people of München were invited to join the festival.

The famous event is a celebration of Bavarian folk music and culture, with around six million people expected to descend on Munich for the festival. There is a packed programme of activities, starting with the grand entry of the Oktoberfest breweries, which sees hundreds of landlords and waitresses make their way into the city in horse-drawn carriages and on elaborately decorated floats.

Other highlights include a costume and riflemen’s parade on September 20th, which features thousands of people dressed in their regional costumes, as well as dancers, flag-throwers, trumpeters on horseback and marching bands. To add, an open-air concert will be taking place in the city on September 27th, with over 400 musicians set to take to the stage.

Travellers will also find dozens of stalls selling locally-produced gifts and souvenirs, as well as fairground attractions and exhibitions.

The official Oktoberfest website is at http://www.oktoberfest.de/en/.
