While the football might of left you cold, there are other sporting battles coming up in sun-filled destinations. And if the idea of a holiday in the UK or a return trip to the same European tourist spot has left you wanting more, how about considering a trip further afield?

If you or your family are cricket fans, later this year England will take on Australia Down Under in what is predicted to be a hotly contested Ashes series. And with the five tests spread between November and January, travelling supporters have plenty of time to combine the cricket with time on sun-kissed beaches or spotting Australia’s famous wildlife.

Whilst you may think you know Australia, there is actually a diamond waiting on the west coast to delight all members of your brood. Western Australia is a veritable feast of stunning landscape and whatever your budget you are sure to find something to suit your holiday style. Whether it is swimming with the world’s biggest fish, the whale shark, at Ningaloo Reef, sampling some of the fine food and wine in Margaret River, camping in the Kimberley outback, one of the world’s last wildernesses or watching the Ashes at Perth’s famous cricket ground, the WACA, you’ll wonder why you never went there before.

A man who has visited Western Australia many times is cricketing legend David Gower. He toured the state as a young cricketer before scoring his first century in Australia at the WACA, Perth’s riverside ground. And he’ll be back in December for the Ashes as well as some marine adventures along WA’s pristine coast.

So what is it that he sees in Australia’s largest and most extraordinary state? How incredible is a trip Down Under to watch the Ashes? And most importantly what is there on offer for your less sport mad friends and family?

Log on to this live webTV show with David and adventure travel journalist Richard Madden to find out why a visit to Western Australia this year will set your pulse racing both on and off the playing field.

From the stunning countryside to the friendly people, a Vietnam holiday can be an experience of a lifetime and fitness fanatics have started to flood to the country to explore what the Asian nation has to offer in terms of martial arts. The country is home to many experts in the field of martial arts, which is considered both a science and an art, and learning the techniques involved in mixed martial arts is a great way to get fit and focus the mind.

Fitness tourists are the latest visitors to Asia that have discovered the unique country of Vietnam and experienced a completely different culture to most places on the planet. The chance to practise martial arts and be guided by experts in the discipline is one that many people have taken up. With the increased availability of flights to the country it has never been easier to step on a plane and travel to Vietnam on the other side of the world in less than a day.

The strength of the British pound has resulted in low cost flights becoming widely available online and it is an opportunity that many people refuse to pass up. This has contributed to a large increase in the number of British tourists travelling to Vietnam who are looking for an enjoyable and relaxing break on a budget. The current economic difficulties have led to many people counting their pennies and a cheap trip to Vietnam ticks all the boxes in terms of a great value break.

The cheap flights to Vietnam that can be booked online have helped to bring down the cost of a holiday to the Asian country remarkably. You can book a flight to a range of different airports that are situated across the country, including the Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai and Da Nang International Airports. You can also book cheap flights at the last minute as well, so if you suddenly get a free space in your diary or come across some free time that you didn’t know you had, you can still book a flight at relatively short notice.

Once you have organised your flights to Vietnam you can also book your accommodation as part of the same package and stay in a very reasonably priced Vietnamese hotel. There are plenty of cheap hotel deals for visitors to Vietnam to enjoy, which allow you to sleep in luxury for the duration of your stay. From hotels in Halong Bay to accommodation in the Mekong Delta, where you to decide to set up base for your break is up to you, and in all destinations the great value accommodation will be accompanied by friendly Vietnamese staff and residents, whose sole purpose is to accommodate you for your holiday in Vietnam.

A cheap flight and stay in a luxurious Vietnamese hotel represents the perfect combination for many tourists, and practising the unique martial arts techniques certainly makes a pleasant change from working out in the gym. You can select the travel package that is right for you and then sit back in the knowledge that you have a great break to look forward to that hasn’t cost you an arm and a leg.

In recent years golf breaks and golf holidays in Spain have become very popular among golfers from northern Europe that have the opportunity to play golf in Spain. With more than 300 courses all over the country Spain is one of the most significant golfing destinations in Europe. The concept “golf holiday” is now been settled since this kind of trips are considered a kind of holiday as well, where golfers can travel with their families and they can have some days on the golf course, at the beach or simply relaxing on the sun.

Golf breaks are popular in Spain with many golfers renting a holiday villa in Spain and playing on the famous Spanish golf courses; Valderrama is one of them, located in the west limit on Costa del Sol, Valderrama brings many golfers staying in holiday cottages on Costa del Sol.

Apart from golf, there are many other reasons to visit Spain. Spain is rich with cultural heritage and it has a great offer of family friendly holiday destinations. However, for the avid golfer, nothing could make a Spain holiday better than playing the links at the world-renowned Valderrama golf course where during the last week hosted the Volvo Masters championship.

Sun lovers like to play golf in Andalucia and spoilt for choice with the number of golf courses and Spain golf accommodation available to them. Spain attracts golfers all the year round to play on what are regarded as some of the best golf courses in Europe.

If you’re sick of the same old vacations spent cooped up indoors or traipsing around foreign cities, you may be desperate for the chance to experience something new. Perhaps you’re short on cash due to the weakening economy or are trying to do your bit for the environment by cutting down on long-distance travel. Whatever your reasons, one of the best ways to spend your vacation time is getting out and about in the great outdoors and luckily this is something that the United Kingdom is absolutely ideal for! Whether you’re looking for a fresh idea for your upcoming summer holidays or you’re simply desperate to find some affordable options, don’t rule out hiring a caravan, pitching a tent, or simply planning your holiday around outdoor activities. There’s nothing better than fresh air, sunshine, and a bit of light exercise to help you to feel refreshed, relaxed, and ready to face the world.

One of the best cheap holidays you can find in the United Kingdom is a camping vacation, and there’s little wonder why – it’s affordable, it’s easy, and it can be done in your local area or as far a field as you like. Camping is a great way to introduce young children to outdoor activities such as starting and maintaining a camp-fire, collecting firewood, pitching a tent, cooking without electricity, and even how to identify wild foods which are safe for consumption. Camping is also a brilliant way to spend time with one another away from the distractions of television, computers and game consoles – rather than watching TV, you and your family can play a game of cards, tell ghost stories or make sweet melted creations in the coals of the camp fire. During the day you can explore the local area on foot or if you’re nearby water you can fish, swim or go for a sail or boat ride. All this at minimal cost!

Another great way to spend your holiday time is by challenging yourself to reach new heights of achievement. This may mean simply getting a bit more exercise in an enjoyable way, such as going for a walk through the forest or along the shore. It may mean finding a mountain to climb, or a challenging hiking path to explore. You may want to try sailing, or to practice your swimming skills, or even to have a go at abseiling or rock climbing! One of the most popular outdoor activities to partake in within the United Kingdom is golf – and of course there are a number of multi-award winning golf courses spread all over the countryside which are ideal for such a hobby. There are so many different activities you can try whilst holidaying in the great outdoors which would simply be impossible to do whilst cooped up in the city. The best part about such activities is that you don’t necessarily have to camp-out in order do them – you can in fact stay in the comfort of a luxury hotel, providing it’s within striking distance to the outdoor location you’re planning to visit.
