A weekend break in Edinburgh promises a range of experiences. Whether you want to experience history, walk around, enjoy adult beverages, sample the local cuisine, or just experience one of the unique hotels in Edinburgh, you can look forward to a memorable and enjoyable, if brief, holiday.

Edinburgh’s best known attraction is also one of its most affordable, the National Museum of Scotland. Plan a few hours to see a comprehensive collection of all things Scottish, including artefacts from Charles Darwin’s voyages. While you are museum-going, stop by the National Galleries of Scotland to see an excellent art collection, and visit the Royal Botanic Garden to see a garden with roots going all of the way back to the 18th century, if the weather allows.

Plan to get out and walk a bit. The Royal Mile winds up towards Edinburgh Castle. Along the way, you will pass many attractions as well as ample opportunities to try on a kilt or buy yourself something else with an authentic Scottish tartan. Try to be at the castle on Saturday at 13.00 to hear the field gun firing. The view from atop the castle is an excellent way to see the lie of the land in and around Edinburgh. If you still have energy, hike to the top of Arthur’s Seat which is not only Edinburgh’s tallest hill, but also an extinct volcano. Many companies also run night-time walking tours that cover both Edinburgh’s paranormal and just-plain-normal history.

All of the walking that you will do will undoubtedly leave you hungry. Don’t miss the opportunity to taste Scotland’s national dish, Haggis, which is made of a tasty mixture of lamb, beef, potatoes and vegetables. Although Edinburgh’s many pubs are an inviting place to rest and have a pint of bitters, make sure you sample Scotland’s national beverage. The Scotch Whisky Experience on Castlehill in Old Town combines an excellent scotch shop with an exhibit that includes a barrel ride and introduces you to the history and process of the making of Scotch whiskey. Your admission also includes a dram, so that you can taste it for yourself.

Although Edinburgh has enough indoor attractions to make it a great place to spend a weekend all year-round, summertime is especially pleasant. If you time your summer visit right, you can spend your weekend during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Although it started out as an alternative to the broader Edinburgh festival season, the years have legitimised it… to a point. Held in 2012 from 3 August through 27 August, it will offer a range of different types of entertainment, all of which will be at least a little bit different. To take advantage of the Fringe, book early since most Edinburgh hotels fill up and tickets sell out.

London is a great city. Poplar throughout the whole of the world it is a loved destination for many tourists visiting the country. However, many UK residents are also choosing to visit the city and explore areas they have never seen before. With this in mind, I have taken the time out to give you a list of places you too can visit in London to get a real taste of England’s fine capital city.

The British Museum

The British museum is a treasure of historical artefacts and hidden gems. It is also great for families looking at learning about their country’s heritage. From the Battle of Hastings to World War 2 artefacts, you will be spoilt for choice and go away feeling that you have learned a little bit more about the country you live in.

Chelsea

Take a walk down the cobbled Victorian streets of Chelsea and walk past a strip of quant coffee shops and luxurious boutiques. The Kings Road is famous for being one of the most visited and admired parts of London. The area is popular with many celebrities and footballers and caters for every taste.

Camden Market

Camden market is a hidden favourite for many Londoners. From the mulled wine sold in the quant market to the sweet smell of crepes cooked under your noses as you scour the clothes stalls. There is literally everything for everyone. Whether you are looking for some unique jewellery, vintage Ted Baker suit, or foam cushions you are sure to find it in London’s most treasured market place. If you are in the mood to eat, then you will be pleased to know that there are huge food areas in the heart of the market, where individual stalls sell a selection of culinary classics from every part of the planet. If you are thinking of going, try and get there on the weekend as most of the stalls will be closed during the week.

London Eye

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to be able to see the whole of the capital from a bird’s eye view? Well, before you decide to learn to fly a helicopter, save your money and head down to The London Eye. Near to the Thames, you can pay around £17 and for half an hour step inside the glass Eye, which is like a large revolving window and look out across the city as far as the eye can see. From the big Gherkin building to the famous Post Office tower, you will be amazed by the view.

Madame Tussauds

Ever wondered what it would be like to walk down the red carpet with David Beckham or stand next to Brad Pitt? Thanks to Madame Tussauds, they bring the celebrity world to life. Situated near Leicester Square, you can take a walk down China Town and sample some exotic Asian delicacies before heading towards the famous wax work museum and having your picture taken with life-like celebrities.

London is a great place to visit but many of it remains hidden unless you research the best places to visit and discover some of the capitals hidden gems. Discover a hidden city today.

Christmas is a special event for most people and provides the perfect opportunity to spend invaluable quality time with family and friends. It can be difficult to gather all members of your extended family together for the occasion, especially if they are scattered across the UK. However, a “staycation” allows you and your loved ones to catch up somewhere special, without the stress and hassle of daily life getting in the way.

With this in mind, it is no surprise that more and more families are choosing to go on holiday over the festive period to relax and experience special seasonal moments together. If you and your family are thinking of taking a break in the British Isles this Christmas, it is important to remember that holiday prices tend to escalate rapidly at this time. However, there are still a number of fantastic deals that can be found with holiday providers such as Teletext Holidays

Given our troubled economy, financial considerations are now at the top of the list of priorities for a number of families, forcing some to tighten their belts and perhaps opt for a staycation over a holiday abroad. Recently, the TripAdvisor 2012 Travel Trends Survey revealed that the current state of the economy was a “significant concern” for Brits but travel budgets for those living in the UK remain healthy.

However, the recession has encouraged a hotbed of competition between holiday providers, and so it is potentially easier to bag a fantastic deal for you and your family, leaving you with a larger travel budget to get the most out of your holiday and focus on making your Christmas a memorable one. What’s more, by taking a staycation at Christmas, families can save money to contribute to future trips. Recent figures from VisitEngland revealed that seven in ten English people plan to embrace the sights and attractions on their own doorstep at least once by the end of the year.

It wouldn’t be accurate to judge a Christmas vacation in the UK as a step down from a trip overseas. With the right holiday – in the popular destinations of Devon, Yorkshire or Northumbria, for example – you can appreciate all the wonders that Blighty has to offer, from its breathtaking coastline to its awe-inspiring countryside. What could be better than relaxing with your family and opening your presents with an open fire burning and a spectacular view of the snow-blanketed Northumbrian countryside outside your window?

Second only to Broadway, London’s West End is a magical place, with theatres opening their doors to visitors eager to see some of the best plays, musical theatre, and comedy around. You can take your pick from family entertainment, adult shows, straight theatre and more, all presented by a cast of some of the UK’s finest actors, and a host of new talent. If this sounds good, then the best way to experience all that theatreland has to offer is to book a London Theatre Breaks package.

Theatre Breaks in London are combined hotel and theatre packages, and one of their key advantages is the money you will save from booking a complete package, instead of separate bookings. Some booking sites will have price guarantees, so you can be assured of the best price. The question is, what do you get for your money? Typically you’ll have a choice from many of the top West End plays, musical theatre, and comedy events, and a bed and breakfast hotel stay, often in a centrally located hotel. Online booking sites will enable you to search for shows and your chosen dates, view seating plans, and find out more about the shows, when they are booking until, and current cast details (if available). In terms of accommodation, you could choose from 3, 4, or 5 star London Hotels. As you progress you may be able to view all the hotels on offer on a map, and have the choice of ‘recommended hotels’, ‘the cheapest hotels’, or ‘hotels closest to the venue’.

Your tailored theatre break could feature a show and a hassle free overnight stay, or you could extend your trip to include shopping, or exploring some of London’s many and varied tourist attractions. Some accommodation packages will offer bed and breakfast, though there may be the option to add in dinner, or attraction tickets to your booking, depending on the agent you use.

You can book theatre breaks in London online at sites like Lastminute.com and Visit London.com. You can also buy theatre breaks from Virgin Experience Days, or check your local travel agent for a London short break or theatre break brochure. It might not be long before you’re taking the family to see The Lion King, Matilda The Musical, or Shrek The Musical, or going with friends to see Les Miserables or Phantom of the Opera. There are also plays and comedy from the likes of Mousetrap, War Horse, 39 Steps, and Driving Miss Daisy, and you could also book a theatre break with Big Night Out Comedy Clubs.

A show would not be complete without a cast, and in the past the likes of Judi Dench, Derek Jacobi, Michael Ball, Michael Crawford, and Nigel Harman, have all graced a West End stage. You could see any of them, or newcomers like Summer Strallen, Lee Mead, or Rachel Tucker.

Competitive prices, a great choice of shows, and hotels close to the West End, makes a London Theatre Break a tempting prospect.

When planning your next getaway, don’t leave Fido at home. Owner and pet holidays can be fun and relaxing if you know exactly where to go. The following places will help you and your dog have a fantastic trip

1. North York Moors National Park

Known for being one of the largest green areas in the United Kingdom, North Yorkshire Moors is the perfect place to let your dog wallow about. He or she will fit in with resident wildlife as you explore the seemingly never-ending moors that appear to roll into each other. Reserve one of the Yorkshire cottages in the area so that you can prolong your stay.

Doggy tip: Your dog will have plenty of space to wander here, however, keep him close by when groups of passing animals approach.

2. Helmsley Walled Garden

Also located in Yorkshire, these historic garden grounds will be a treat for the both of you. Here you can hang out under the shade of fruit trees or let your four-legged pal splash around in the dipping pond.

Doggy tip: Bring materials to dispose of waste so that you can clean up after your furry friend.

3. Brahmam Park

This meeting place in West Yorkshire is delightful both in its ample yard space and its one-of-a-kind design. Cantered around a summer home built at the turn of the 18th century house, the grounds are a sprawling respite that includes a pond, a boardwalk and a temple.

Doggy tip: Look for signs advising when your pet pal has to be on a lead.

4. Burton Agnes Hall

Both the sights and smells of the walled gardens in this locale will make you want to stay forever. Head to East Yorkshire for a decidedly different pace at Burton Agnes Hall. This popular family spot is a great place to walk your cuddly companion and the mile-long woodland walk will give it a great chance to stretch its legs.

Doggy tip: Burton Agnes Hall can be quite busy during the day, have your dog on a lead at all times.

5. Pugneys Country Park

This South Yorkshire park is designed for maximum enjoyment for both you and your dog. While humans have a choice between water sports on one of the two lakes or trail jogging, your dog can have a little fun of its own in the dog wash area.

Doggy tip: Take advantage of the onsite pooper scoopers to make a dirty job a little cleaner.

Advertorial Feature

Caravan holidaying is all about optimising your enjoyment while minimising the costs. There should be no exception when purchasing your static home itself and this article has been authored to point you in the right direction of finding the very best deal for you and your family.

Buying directly from a holiday park is the best way to get value for your money in terms of the accompanying park facilities. Family holidaying at these parks can be great fun as there are specific play areas for children, swimming pools, entertainment and lots more to provide a temporary sanctuary for the adults whilst on holiday. Still, there a number of steps to selecting a gem from the wealth of static homes for sale across the UK:

Brand New vs. Pre-loved

There is nothing like a brand new, untouched caravan home. Unfortunately these can sometimes come at a high price, especially now as more and more homes come fitted with elaborate extras (e.g. built in plasma TV). However, there are very reasonable finance options available from the major holiday parks and taking the time to visit these could result in you acquiring a luxurious static home for a suitable price.

Second-hand caravans can be much cheaper alternatives and some ‘nearly new’ options offer minimum sacrifice in quality and provide excellent value for money. Be sure to inspect pre-owned caravans thoroughly to ensure everything is in good working order.

Your holiday home should be completely stress free, so many would suggest buying a brand new static home if possible to ensure piece of mind.

Free Roam vs. Secure Home

The location can be the making of your caravanning holiday. Select from the best holiday home parks and ensure the facilities match your needs. Equally, question if you are able to relocate your caravan to another site.

There are benefits to being able to move your caravan from one site to another, although situating your caravan in one quality spot you can open the gateway to lucrative subletting options. Instead of leaving your beloved holiday home dormant whilst you’re not there, rent it out to fellow caravan holiday lovers who will maintain your caravan and keep it fresh until the summer (or whenever you prefer to holiday). The profits from this could also dramatically elasticise your budget.

Budget

Explore the finance options available, browse the online catalogues of nearly new caravans and weigh up the value for money of caravans for sale from the different holiday parks. Be honest with your budgeting and remember the accessible renting opportunities, which can actually be very profitable as holidaying in the UK continues to grow in popularity.

Small Print

Finally, the serious stuff – licensing agreements. The holiday park owner will require you to sign an agreement with them which stipulates your rights and the terms of the contract. Don’t be afraid to ask questions at this juncture but make sure you read everything on that paper.

The major holiday home parks are extremely trustworthy and can be identified by their credentials – check to see if they are BHHPA certified (80% of UK parks have this qualification).

Leeds is also home to the Victoria Quarter, Merrion Centre, The Light and St. John’s Centre, so you aren’t short of shopping destinations to choose from!

An Advertising Feature

A colossal cheer rang out from Trafalgar Square marking the start of ecstatic, flag-waving celebrations. It was 6 July 2005 and the International Olympics Committee had just announced that the 2012 Olympic Games would be held in London.

Back then it seemed little more than a fantastic prize; an amazing opportunity to change the face of British sport.

Nearly seven years on and the dream is about to become a reality.

Next summer, all eyes will turn to London and the UK as we host the world’s biggest sporting event: the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Thousands of visitors will travel to this country and still more will travel from their homes across the UK because watching the Olympics in your home country is a once in a lifetime experience.

Official advice to ticket holders is to start planning how you will get to your event venue as soon as you can. The transport system will be busy and organisers are encouraging people to use public transport such as trains, buses and coaches to travel to the 2012 games.

Most of the venues for the London 2012 Games are being held at the Olympic Park or in other parts of the capital. But there are other venues located the length and breadth of Britain from Glasgow in the north for the preliminary rounds of the women’s football to Weymouth and Portland on the south coast where the sailing events will be held.

In addition, there will be a massive programme of cultural events taking place during the Games and, if you want to be part of the action but aren’t lucky enough to have a ticket, you can head off to one of many urban “Live Sites” which will give live information, video, news and community events on big screens.

However you plan to get involved, it’s clear that your travel arrangements must be a key part of your advance planning.

There is no spectator parking at any of the event venues, except for a small number of disabled spaces.

National Express has already set up a special timetable of coaches that will drop you right outside the Olympic Park. There are also special services running across the country to meet the demand of the Games which run from 27 July to 12 August 2012.

Coaches can also drop passengers at Victoria Coach Station, a short walk from Victoria Underground Station where you can get a tube to Stratford Regional station. Use the one day travel card that comes with your event ticket to get free travel on London’s tubes and buses.

And if you hold a Family or Young Persons Coachcard, you’ll also benefit from cheaper travel when you travel by National Express.

National Express is the largest scheduled coach service provider in Europe. In the UK the distinctive white National Express coaches travel to 1000 destinations and carry over 18 million passengers a year. Eurolines coaches operate to more than 500 destinations in Europe and Ireland.

Yorkshire is arguably one of England’s most rugged and beautiful counties. Boasting a diverse selection of landscapes, including moors, dales and coves, Yorkshire attracts ramblers from all over Britain. Staying in Yorkshire holiday cottages, visitors to the area are able to enjoy a considerable degree of comfort as they explore this truly unique territory.

One of the most popular walking routes in Yorkshire can be found between Malham and Gordale. These are areas of outstanding natural beauty that are renowned for their impressive waterfalls, rich vegetation and prominent limestone crags. The sheer beauty of Malham and Gordale is difficult to convey in mere words, which is why so many visitors to Yorkshire make sure that they explore the region on foot.

Malham Cove is one of Yorkshire’s greatest treasures. Featuring an extraordinary limestone roof, the cove provides impressive views of the surrounding area. Prior to reaching Malham Cove, walkers are usually keen to tackle the challenges of Watlowes, while Gordale Scar, Janet’s Foss waterfall and Malham Tarn are equally irresistible to ramblers. A sturdy pair of walking boots with excellent tread should be brought along for this adventure and walkers are advised to take great care on top of Malham Cove.

Gentle walks can be enjoyed in Dentdale, Hacker Gill, Aysgarth Falls, Coniston Dib, Askrigg and West Burton. There are so many ways in which to explore the countryside in Yorkshire, official routes tend to provide merely the platform upon which ramblers choose their own paths. Walkers who enjoy spectacular views should journey between Askrigg and Mill Gill Force in the Yorkshire Dales, not least to visit the historic St. Oswald’s Parish Church and Mill Dam footbridge to witness the breath-taking Mill Gill Force waterfall.

There are plenty of walking routes at a higher level of difficulty available in Yorkshire. Those in search of a challenging walk should consider visiting Three Peaks, Buckden Pike, Simon’s Seat, High Seat, Troller’s Gill and Little Whernside. Despite the names of some of these destinations, walkers are likely to encounter few opportunities to sit down as they traverse this rugged land.

Moderately challenging routes include Clapham to Ingleborough, Kettlewell to Old Cote Moor and Litton to Penyghent. Ramblers should also visit Grimwith Reservoir, Settle Caves and Moughton Scars for a complete experience.

Irrespective to the challenges posed by a particular route, walking in Yorkshire necessitates a warm, comfortable place to stay. Although some people choose to camp beneath the stars (or rain, hail or snow as is often the case), most prefer to enjoy one of the many Holiday cottages in the region.

Cottages in Yorkshire are scattered throughout the Dales and surrounding areas. Offering warmth and shelter in abundance, most cottages in Skipton, Haworth, Crakehall, Settle and other such beauty spots provide many of the creature comforts enjoyed at home.

The place is known for its beautiful views which include spectacular skies as well as clear waters. There are numerous accommodation options in the area and many people choose to stay in the luxury cottages that are located close to the beach.

The area has plenty to keep visitors busy and it also has spectacular beaches. Those visiting should be prepared to pack picnics and get ready to enjoy some sun and sand. Staying in one of the cottages near the beach will mean that you have easy access to the ocean as well as the local tourist attractions.

The holiday cottages that are available in Torquay can suit all needs. They come in many sizes so if you are visiting with just a partner or a large group of family, you will find something spacious enough to suit your requirements. Torquay is very much a destination for those who enjoy water sports as there are many activities that you can partake in on the beaches local to the holiday cottages.

The beaches and waters make for perfect condition for doing some water skiing. There are experts in the area who have speedboats which will be able to organise the whole activity for you. This will be a safe and thrilling activity for all those who take part.

Under the waters there are other activities too. Snorkelling is popular and being able to see some of the marine life of the area will be astounding as it is rich and diverse. For those who are feeling a little more adventurous, then diving is also an option. As with the water skiing there are many operators on the beach who will ensure you have a good time while looking out for your safety.

If you travel a bit further away from your holiday cottage, you will discover Water Sports Torquay. This is a centre that offers visitors a great deal of water based activities. For adrenaline junkies there is the extreme donut boat ride – where you are pulled at high speed in an inflatable ring across the water.

For those who are more into relaxing rather than white knuckle activities, taking a banana boat ride is an enjoyable alternative. Whatever water sport you are into, or even if you just want to enjoy a picnic on the beach, Torquay will certainly provide everything you need.

From basic to luxurious, cottages, caravan parks, camping facilities and other options are available, providing access to beaches for swimming and surfing, tidal pools for exploring, walks and picnic spots galore. For cyclists there’s a truly marvelous opportunity in the Devon Coast to Coast route that is largely traffic free and you can hop on it anywhere from Ilfracombe to Plymouth.

The 95-mile stretch from East Devon to Dorset is England’s first World Heritage site, known as the Jurassic Coast, where 185 million years of Earth’s history is recorded in the rocks. The area is fascinating for its history alone, but added to its remarkable scenic beauty, it’s an ideal getaway for a family holiday, a romantic interlude or just a day at the beach.

Ilfracombe, on the North Devon coast, is one of the favorite spots for all sorts of entertainment. It is known for the Tunnel Beaches, delved out of the surrounding cliffs in the 1820′s to create the private beaches and tidal pools that were the ‘underpinnings’ of the fashionable Victorian resort. Today the area offers all the amenities of a modern holiday resort whilst retaining much of the charm of an earlier century.

South Devon is also famous for its relatively warm and sunny climate – in fact it’s called the English Riviera. This is a fabulous spot for walking or cycling tours, and beaches such as Blackpool Sands, Dawlish Warren and Paignton offer every activity from sun bathing to sailing, with swimming and snorkeling in between and surfing for the adventurous. There’s even one named Beer, in a sheltered cove that’s called a suntrap and still supports a working fishing boat harbor.

Altogether, there really is something for every age and interest on this magnificent coast, but maybe one of the greatest attractions is its quality of unspoiled and unexploited natural beauty. It’s all there for your enjoyment and refreshment, as it’s been since the British Isles were formed.

If you are arriving in the UK via air, you may want to hire a motorhome to see the wonderful Isles.

Scafell Pike is situated in the Lake District and the highest mountain in England, rising to over 3,200 feet. You can make the Lake District your motorhome destination and enjoy all that the area has to offer, and there are many motorhome and camping facilities to choose from..

Cheddar Gorge in Somerset is located at the Mendip Hills’ southern end. There you will find the deepest gorge in England plummeting over 150m, naturally carved by nature out of the Limestone cliffs. You can take in the Clifftop Gorge Walk that is a round trip of about three miles and can also enjoy a ride on an open top bus if the walk is too much. Also in the area are great hiking trails and for the more adventurous, caving and opportunities to climb.

In the Northern Irish County of Antrim, you will find the Giant’s Causeway which was formed over 60 million years ago by the cooling of lava. Local legend says different however, and the story goes that Finn MacCool created the Causeway for a fight he was to have with a Scottish giant.

Wherever it came from, be it geological or mythical, the Causeway is a unique formation of rock that resembles a different series of stepping stones made of granite that will accommodate even the largest of feet.

In Powys Wales, there is Pistyll Rhaeadr, or Spring waterfall, to admire. This is Wales’ highest waterfall with a drop of over 75 metres, making this natural masterpiece a breathtaking sight, and it’s surrounded by wonderful scenery with great opportunities to walk or hike. There are trails that will take you from the lowest point in the gorge to the top of the waterfalls, giving you a different perspective from the two levels.

In Scotland there is the beautiful Loch Lomond the separates the lowlands of central Scotland from the Highlands. Lomond is mainland Britain’s largest lake at over 24 miles long with its deepest point being over 620 feet. To go along with the stunning scenery is excellent hiking, golfing, rock climbing and water sports. There are over 60 islands in the loch and these are often described as the jewels on the surface of Lomond.

After being connected with the rest of England via railway construction in the 1840s, Blackpool emerged as a tourist destination. New settlement increased city size and by 1876 the area was incorporated as a borough. By 1901 the area’s reputation as a seaside resort was firmly established. The promenade attraction included theatres, donkey rides and fortune tellers.

Today, Blackpool remains a favourite summertime destination for UK residents. Enjoy live performances at the Grand Theatre. Shows run regularly during the late summer. Shall We Dance, a movie starring Jennifer Lopez, feature the Blackpool Dance Festival, an internationally recognized ballroom dance competition. From late August to early November, Blackpool Illuminations light up the sea front. The area is affectionately known as the gay capital of the North, providing a safe haven for alternative lifestyles.

Additional attractions include the Blackpool Tower, designed after the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Three piers hold shops, arcade centres and various rides. Funny Girls, located on Dickson Road, is home to a drag cabaret burlesque show bar. Visit the chamber of horrors at Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks. Board the Blackpool tram, one of the oldest electrical versions in the world, for a leisurely, self-guided city tour. Many area attractions are accessible by train or bus.

During low season, Winter Gardens hosts a number of political and trade union conferences. Conference rooms, a theatre and ballroom are located inside the facility. Since 1994 the World Matchplay darts tournament has been held every July at the venue.

Location is everything when searching for cheap hotels in the Blackpool area. Many hotels in Blackpool offer beachfront views. Some offer additional amenities including free wireless internet and fitness facilities. Save money when you book accommodations situated at a distance from the city centre. Make Blackpool and the northwest of England your next vacation destination.

An Advertising Feature

There are many reasons why a walking holiday could be the best holiday you have ever been on, take a look at what you could already be missing out on.

A walking holiday is a good choice whatever the weather and whatever the country, there is never a better way to see a place than by foot.

You can go on your own holiday and track your own routes, whether with the whole family or just you and your partner. Or you can choose to go with an organised company and take the opportunity to meet new people.

If you go for the latter option then this can really take the stress out of having to plan the routes and finding your way around a foreign country which can be quite hard, especially if you do not speak the language.

If you go with a special tour group then you can also be sure they will know the best places to take you, however be warned, sometimes the walks can be quite tough and take up the majority of the day so you will need to be of a reasonable fitness level to partake.

Going on a walking trip will take a lot out of you so you should be prepared and have the right clothing to take with you to make it easier on your limbs.

If you are going on a walking holiday somewhere hot then take plenty of sun cream as you could easily get burnt when outside all day.

A hat is also a good idea as this will prevent you from getting heat stroke – although you should also remember to drink plenty of water too.

Some good walking shoes will also be vital and will protect your feet, ankles and knees from the strain walking can bring.

Take blister plasters just in case though, and an extra pair of trainers may also be a comfortable alternative every now and again.

Invest in some special walking socks as these will also cushion your feet when walking. While even if you do not expect it to rain, waterproof clothing could be a good idea too.

Ladies waterproof jackets can come in a variety of colours so you can stand out from the crowd, while combined with waterproof trousers, your whole body will be protected from the rain.

Think about taking a compass with you too as this could really help you map read if you are on your own – while a mobile phone may also be a good idea, just in case you get lost and need some help getting back.

This article has explained that while a walking holiday could be tough, you will certainly feel like you have achieved something at the end and you may even make some lifelong friends too.

The county is beautiful and has many areas that are a pleasure to walk through with plenty to see as you stroll along.

There are walking routes suitable for everybody, whether you’re looking for a gentle afternoon stroll or a longer route that you’ll have to stretch out over days. Luckily, there are plenty of great East Sussex Hotels for you to stay in whilst travelling the length of whichever path you choose.

One of the longer routes you could take is the Sussex section of the South Downs Way, which we’ll give you some information on in this blog post (hence the title). This walk takes you along the lovely South Downs, where you can climb up and down the rolling hills and cliff tops and see the famous Seven Sisters white cliffs.

Depending on what time of year you make your trip you’ll want to make sure you have weather-appropriate clothing. Even in summer it’s a good idea to be sure you have a fleece or jumper as the higher areas can get windy.

There are plenty of options for walking along it. Wild camping is a possibility, but you have to get permission from the landowner first. You can easily organise your trip to end at a bus stop each day though, or even arrange for pick-ups from local businesses that offer such services to ferry you back to whichever of the hotels in Sussex you’re staying at.
