The amount of tourists visiting the UK from the Gulf Region has increased according to a VisitBritain report that shows that in 2009 about 496,000 people visited the UK from the region which is a 9% increase compared to 2008.
Tourists that visit from the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar are attracted to the UK by the fact that they can find many luxury and fashion goods in the country that are not available to them back in their own home countries. They also relish the chance to see a Premier League football club game while in town.
Tourism from the Gulf Region makes a large contribution to the economy in the UK with the average amount spent by holiday goers over 2009 averaging out to be around £1,700 per person which is three times more than what the average tourist in general spends at £554.
The Gulf region made up almost 2% of the tourists that travelled to the UK last year but spent about £586m together which is about 5% of the total earned in tourist’s revenues by the UK.
One of the reasons for the increase in tourist activity from the Gulf in the UK is due to its reputation as a well organized and safe country that offers polite, friendly locals and a very low rate of fraud or theft compared to other European countries. The temperate climate is also desirable to those who want to get out of the hot summer temps in the Gulf region which can average up to around 45C in areas such as Saudi Arabia.
The report also discovered that while most visitors from the region are not familiar with Britain past the city of London, they do find the idea of visiting other areas appealing.
