Manrique also fought during the 1970´s and 80´s for controlled tourist development and won a number of notable victories.  Such as securing a ban on high rise buildings.  Visit his former home at the Cesar Manrique Foundation find out more about the man and his influence on Lanzarote.

Wonderful Wine Routes

Wines from Lanzarote and the Canaries where very popular in Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries.  The sweet grape variety Malvasia was cultivated across the islands and exported tot eh courts of Europe.  William Shakespeare was a big fan – and name checked the wine in a number of his best know works.  Although it is possible that he had a vested interest – as he enjoyed an annual stipend of 365 gallons of Malvasia wine as part of his role as poet laureate.
